Histology Lab Aide

The Histology Laboratory Aide is responsible for the collection, identification verification, processing and preparing of Histology samples.

• Diligently check/communicate with Pathologists and Lab Coordinators regarding any questions and concerns, monitor the orphaned slide file daily, reconcile “exception lists” and find missing slides for scanning
• Scan all slides into scanners and provide edits per protocol
• Run and maintain the staining and cover-slipping instruments
• Accurately scan all slides and blocks returned from pathologists at benchmark;
  Clinical and Anatomic
• Process other add-on requests in a timely manner including all Antrim changes to original accession number
• Process biopsy submissions under fume hood
• Organize TRF (test request forms) with samples on grossing trays
• Sort urgent and manifest samples
• Dry leaked TRFs per SOP and perform container transfers
• Receive biopsy samples from other labs and organize as outlined above
• Scan TRFs using the scanner; monitor output to ensure there are no errors in getting these to Transcription
• Pull and reconcile assigned pending lists
• Awareness of quality control and calibration
• Crosstrain and develop knowledge of multiple specialties within department/lab
• Follow applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including safety and quality procedures
• Maintain a clean and organized work area; restock supplies as needed
• Participate in improving lab efficiency, quality, and cooperation
• Consult with senior peers on non-complex tasks to learn through experience
• Performs other duties as assigned
