PURPOSE:

The Cedar Knolls House Hard to Place Group Residence serves girls ages 16 to 21 who exhibit a wide range of emotional and behavioral challenges stemming from acute and/or chronic traumatization. All of the youth are referred by the Administration for Children’s Services. The Group Residence provides supervised living units and programs of therapeutic and recreational services that emphasize family interaction and strengthening of community support networks, as well as increasing independent living skills.

The goal for all our youth is to transition them back to the community within a year of placement to a family member, significant adult connection, achieve housing, higher education, etc.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Behavioral Health Clinician is a key member of the therapeutic team at Cedar Knolls House. He/She/They are responsible for supplying necessary, culturally sensitive clinical interventions within the realm of the program. The Behavioral Health Clinician works closely with the division’s medical, milieu, psychiatric and psychology staff, to ensure appropriate evaluations and treatment interventions for the youth.

Key Essential Functions
  • Meet with assigned residents for weekly sessions, engage and remain in contact with their parents, ensure home visits are conducted, vocational/ Educational, psychiatric, recreational services are provided.
  • Identifying and providing access to specific concrete services and community resources
  • Engage families in planning for service
  • Identifying and providing access to specific concrete services and community services
  • Advocate, as necessary, with external resources such as mental health providers, treatment facility, FCLS, community members etc. on behalf of the residents
  • Provide individual, family, and group counseling both on-site at Cedar Knolls House for young ladies 16-21 years old.
  • Liaise between program, family court, ACS, case planners, youth’s family members, and relevant community members.
  • Attend other planned ACS and school conferences, as well as court hearings.
Team Process
  • Participate in weekly team meetings and may lead the meeting on occasion. Prepare integrative treatment plan, based on all assessments from the other professionals. Ensure follow-up as necessary from meetings.
  • Conduct meetings to ensure proper treatment, progress in program and coordination of goals.
  • Provide psychoeducation and intervention support to Direct Support Professionals.
  • Work with Direct Support Professionals to enhance communication and cooperation between them and consumer families.
  • Provide crisis intervention, as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Documentation
  • Complete paperwork, including case notes, FASPs, PHR’s and court reports, in a timely manner.
  • Complete psychosocial assessment within the first 30 days of youth’s admission.
  • Participate in audit preparation.

Educational/Training Requirements and Language Preference
  • License Master’s in Social Work (LMSW), License Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT), Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) or Licensed Creative Arts Therapist (LCAT) with a minimum of one year of relevant experience with similar population,
  • Valid Driver’s License required.
  • Spanish speaking a plus.
