School Based Counselor

The Council on Addiction Prevention and Education (CAPE) of Dutchess County has multiple openings available for full-time Prevention Counselors to provide individual and group counseling to middle and high school students. The School-Based Counselor provides prevention education and early intervention counseling to prevent or delay alcohol and other drug use in adolescents.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Evaluate students referred to prevention services
• Provide individual and group counseling
• Promote school-wide prevention education and awareness activities
• Participate in school meetings, committees, and assemblies as needed
• Provide monthly statistical reporting and documentation in EHR
• Maintain visibility by attending after-school activities

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in mental health counseling-related fields
• NYS license or licensure eligibility: LMSW, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, MHC-LP, MSW-LP, LCAT, and master’s-level psychologists
• Candidates with other counseling master’s degrees, such as School Counseling, may be eligible if the additional educational requirements have been completed to immediately apply for an MHC-LP in New York
