Job Description

Operates the telephone console, performs communication activities and responsible for various duties. Performs various routine clerical duties.

Job Responsibility

  • * Operates multiple line console to relay incoming, outgoing and intra-system calls.
  • * Provides directory assistance to physicians and others.
  • * Maintains updated list of Administrators, Attending Doctors, Medical and Surgical Staff, and legal, by maintaining extensions and telephone numbers.

    Updates various lists and records, such as beeper lists and emergency phone numbers.
  • * Calls appropriate personnel for authorization to place long distance calls for medical purposes.

    Maintains accurate log of all long distance and overseas calls, forwarding the information to the Director of Telecommunications.
  • * Program or swap beepers for all hospital staff.

    Providing beeper forms and notification to staff when beeper is available.
  • * Contacts personnel through the use of the beeper system.
  • * Utilization of the overhead paging system for all emergencies, codes, and all pertinent announcements, such as conferences, meetings and the ending of visiting hours.
  • * Announces all codes and enters information into the computer system, for immediate beeper notification of all code teams.
  • * Test the code and trauma beepers twice daily.
  • * Responds to the OEM radio with daily documentation.
  • * Follows HEICS notification through individual telephone contact, with time documentation.
  • * Documents all department occurrences.

    Prepared information forwarded to the Supervisor or Director.
  • * Covers both north and south sites by transferring the boards during break time, weekends, nights and when working with minimal staff.
  • * Updates department on call books with daily changes.
  • * Notifies Security of any problems as requested by employees or visitors.
  • * Follows all department procedures as noted in Department Policy and Procedure manual.
  • * Operates the telephone console, which includes beeper paging overhead paging for the communication of information inside and outside the Hospital.

    Keeps a clerical record of updated information as specified by departmental policies and procedures.
  • Performs related duties as required

Job Qualification

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Minimum of six (6) months experience in console operation, required.
  • Read, write and speak English to understand and interpret written and verbal instructions.
