Position Summary

The Neurophysiology Coordinator will perform all types of EEG studies, including routine, video, ambulatory and continuous ambulatory EEG, and/or Evoked Potential studies. The coordinator may also be assigned to perform polysomnographic procedures and record scoring. Applicants qualified in either or both EEG and sleep are welcome.

Responsibilities
  • The coordinator performs EEG studies on patients of all age groups (neonates, pediatric, adult, geriatric) and participates in recording studies according to approved clinical research protocols.
  • Provides technically excellent EEG testing and procedures in a fiscally sound and productive manner.
  • Performs neurophysiology laboratory activity, including troubleshooting equipment issues, maintaining equipment and supplies in working order, and coordinating with information technology, vendors, and department staff.
  • Reports to the medical director for technical elements and to the practice manager for scheduling and time‑off approval.
  • Obtaining patient history, gathering information about symptoms and medications.
  • Explaining test procedures to patients and family members present.
  • Measuring and accurately applying electrodes according to established guidelines; performs routine EEG, video EEG, and specialized EEG/EP studies in the outpatient setting.
  • Performing basic video EEG monitoring under minimal supervision.
  • Conducting neurological testing protocols on patients having seizures.
  • Understanding basic EEG/EP patterns and recognizing general categories of abnormalities.
  • Recognizing, monitoring, and eliminating artifacts.
  • Obtaining accurate recordings that address the clinical question.
  • Troubleshooting and solving common EEG, EP, and video EEG recording system problems.
  • Consulting with supervisory staff about unresolved problems following troubleshooting guidelines.
  • Checking recording accuracy before the patient leaves the laboratory or an attending/fellow is called.
  • Performing basic EEG archive and transfer functions.
  • Demonstrating professional interpersonal skills with patients, family members, and colleagues.
  • Filling out and submitting forms and departmental documents pertaining to each procedure.
  • Entering technical information into the database.
Polysomnographic Procedures

Follow procedural protocols such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) and Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT) to ensure collection of appropriate data. Perform polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study‑tracing quality to ensure artifact‑free signals; adjust procedures as necessary. Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.

Implement appropriate interventions for patient safety and therapeutic needs. Follow lights‑on procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process, including calibrations and patient instruction for completing questionnaires.

Polysomnographic Record Scoring

Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines and score clinical events (respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) according to center‑specific protocols. Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires a bachelor's degree or equivalent in education, training and experience, plus three years of related experience and/or successfully completed a neurophysiology program from an accredited institution.
