About the Position

We are hiring Direct Support Professionals for our Day Habilitation Services in Queens.

YAI's day programs are designed to assist people to acquire, retain or improve their self‑help, socialization and adaptive skills, including communication, travel and other areas in adult education. Activities and environments are designed to foster the development of life skills, and adaptation to appropriate social behavior; all to achieve greater independence.

The day program focuses on community inclusion through volunteer work, healthy relationship building, promoting self‑advocacy and making informed decision.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide direct care services as needed, including counseling, training in ADLs, assistance with personal care, medical, dietary, social, sexual, recreational, financial, habilitative and other needs within the program.
  • Ensure the health, safety, and wellness of the people we support.
  • Carry out a progressive teaching style designed to measure accuracy, fluency, and competency on individualized goals using foundational teaching skills (EMOE, task analysis, essential skills, supports and modifications).
  • Maintain a conducive learning environment through a variety of methods: personal outcome measures, person‑centered thinking, informed decision making.
  • Complete thorough and timely monthly documentation to ensure regulatory compliance and meeting billing deadlines.
  • Provide timely services that align with each person’s schedule, ensuring consistency and respect for each service recipient.
  • Implement the day program plans, providing opportunities for self‑determination, independent activity, increased productivity and greater community inclusion.
  • Collect, record, and report data for all written program plans (behavior plans, treatment plans, staff action plans, etc.) and write case notes and incident reports as required.
  • Demonstrate strong communication skills through articulate written and verbal modes, effectively relaying detailed information to stakeholders.
  • Complete mandatory trainings per program and position (CPR/First Aid, SCIP, etc.) and apply the learned skills.
  • Ensure appropriate supervision of the people we support and the program, understanding when to contact an administrator for support.
  • Escort people on recreational activities, volunteer sites, and community events and/or functions.
  • Assist people with purchases and safeguard personal allowance funds and additional funds.
  • Perform additional tasks outside of basic DSP work as needed.
  • Strong writing skills required; ability to analyze, interpret, and summarize data through detailed progress notes.
Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred.
  • Work or life experience in the I/DD field is a plus for DSP 1, but not mandatory. For DSP 2 positions, at least three years of Direct Support Professional experience in the I/DD field.
  • Valid NY State Driver’s License is a plus.
  • Tuberculosis test is mandatory for most positions.
Schedule
  • Full time;
    Monday through Friday.
  • 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM (Bayside location).
  • 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM (Kew Gardens location).

Compensation

$16.78/hour to $16.78/hour.
