Position Summary
Float School Health Medical Associate located in Brooklyn. Must be bilingual in Spanish. Provides supportive services to the health care provider and nursing staff in an ambulatory care setting in accordance with the policies and procedures of Family Health Centers at NYU Langone.
Job Responsibilities- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety and age‑related criteria pertinent to the patients served in his/her assigned area.
- Completes all laboratory point‑of‑care testing and specialty referral forms related to the service.
- Transports and accompanies patients as needed.
- Observes and alerts the nursing staff of patients who appear in need of urgent or immediate care.
- Retrieves laboratory and ancillary test results from the computer.
- Completes, retrieves and/or prints patient forms such as CH 205 CIR.
- Checks for completeness of encounter forms and prescriptions.
- Obtains vital signs, height, weight, head and chest circumference as needed on all patients.
- Performs simple dressings.
- Provides translation services as needed.
- Coordinates module/site supply requests as assigned.
- Performs venous phlebotomy.
- Responds appropriately to patient emergencies such as cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.
- Documents data collected and care rendered.
- Demonstrates a sensitive and supportive attitude toward patients, families and/or significant others.
- Schedules and registers patients for visits with providers using Epic.
- Verifies insurance via Relay Health and other online insurance verification services using Epic.
- In the high‑school setting, screens patients to determine eligibility for Family Planning Benefits (FPB) and completes FPB Medicaid applications as necessary.
- Demonstrates EMT competency.
- Maintains all service areas orderly (e.g., treatment exam and utility rooms).
- Reinforces health teaching to patients and families.
- Assists with clerical duties specific to the area of assignment.
- Attends staff meetings and reviews/ signs minutes of meetings not attended; maintains competence through in‑service and educational programs.
- Demonstrates an awareness of and respect for coworkers and patients’ cultural backgrounds.
Flexibility to float at various work site locations as needed operationally and when requested.
Minimum Qualifications- High School Diploma or equivalency.
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association, required at the time of hire and to be maintained.
- Reporting of Child Abuse and Maltreatment Certificate required.
1–2 years of ambulatory care experience preferred.

Salary RangeSalary range for this role is $52,677.46 – $52,677.46 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education and organizational need. The salary range does not include bonuses, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
