Medical Assistant – Family Medicine Office – Albany, NY - FT

Full time, Day Shift.

We need a Medical Assistant in the capital region. The position is located at 713 Troy‑Schenectady Road, Latham, NY.

What You Will Do

The Medical Assistant is responsible for supporting nurses and physicians in providing quality medical care.

Responsibilities
  • Escort patient to exam room, take appropriate vital signs and document all necessary health information into the electronic medical record.
  • Respond to patients’ concerns appropriately.
  • Complete referrals and obtain pre‑authorizations for diagnostic testing.
  • Follow proper protocol for collection and delivery of specimens.
  • Participate in all required meetings and practice huddles.
  • Complete incoming patient forms and ensure forms are scanned into the electronic medical record if applicable.
  • Use Universal Precautions with all encounters. Know and follow procedure for handling occurrences involving exposure to blood or other body fluid.
  • Document all exposure incidents per St Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates policy.
  • Notify physician regarding patients in need of physician intervention.
  • Ensure that patient exam rooms are stocked and cleaned at all times.
  • Follow office protocol to ensure adequate supplies are ordered and stocked.
  • Perform office testing with appropriate training and within scope of practice.
  • Handle medical waste appropriately.
  • Provide educational materials to patients.
  • Provide patients with electronic copy of medical record.
  • If applicable, perform front‑end functions to insure achievement of established revenue cycle metrics, consistent with excellence standards and practice workflows:
    • Scheduling and registration
    • Check‑in
    • Check‑out
    • Charge entry/claims
    • End of day processes
    • General duties including but not limited to:
    • Document processing
    • Scanning
    • Inbox monitoring
  • Comply with Patient Centered Medical Home (PCMH) care delivery model.
  • Perform all mandatory training.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
  • Work cooperatively with all team members to ensure quality patient care at all times.
  • Communicate respectfully and effectively with providers, clinical staff, colleagues, managers and others.
  • Adhere to St Peter’s Health Partners Medical Associates Code of Conduct in performance of all job duties.
  • Obtain and maintain medical assistant certification according to MA certification policy.
  • Cross‑cover other areas as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Training Program
  • Holds National Medical Assistant Certification: CMA, CCMA, RMA
Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalency
  • At least 10 months’ work and/or clinical training experience in the healthcare field
  • Proficient in obtaining manual vital signs
  • Experience using an electronic health record system
  • Commitment to confidentiality and respect
  • Ability to obtain and record patient data including but not limited to: prior health history, family history, allergies, current medications, current complaints, health screening questionnaires
  • Knowledge of basic anatomy and medical terminology
  • Experience assisting physicians, nurses, or other healthcare providers in performing clinical tasks and procedures
  • Ability to provide patients with information related to their health and wellness

Pay Range: $19.00 - $26.15 per hour, based on experience. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
