Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Building Service Attendant — 38th Street.
Job Responsibilities- Sweeps, mops, vacuums, collects trash, polishes floors using buffing/burnishing machines, performs high dusting, spot washes, doors as needed, removes marks, cleans and makes beds, spot wall washing, washes toilets, cleans furniture, empties trash receptacles, cleans Venetian blinds and shades, radiators, railings, stairways, lights, vents, doors, removes and hangs cubicle and shower curtain, uses ladder for door frames and cleans picture frames, washes porters' closets, equipment, and replenishes cleaning supplies;
uses telephone and pager for Bed Tracking. - Performs other duties as assigned.
- Maintains established safety and infection control guidelines; follows departmental safety guidelines when using equipment and moving furniture; uses proper body mechanics; requests assistance when lifting or moving items too large or too heavy; wears gloves at all times; follows infection control procedures; washes hands frequently; advises supervisor of hazardous conditions; posts wet floor signs and takes actions to prevent accidents.
- Operates Bed Tracking System and pager for receiving discharges; knowledgeable of Bed Tracking program; performs the 7-Cleaning Steps for each patient room daily and provides discharge cleaning; performs dusting, spot wall washing, damp wiping surfaces using bleach or hospital disinfectants; sweeps and mops floors; disinfects bathrooms; restocks supplies; empties and re-lines trash; removes finger marks; performs high dusting as scheduled; uses germicidal cleaner for toilets;
knowledgeable of hospital safety protocols (RACE, PASS, chemical and trash safety, MSDS, HIPAA and infection control protocols); picks up and disinfects soiled areas. - Vacuums all carpeted areas thoroughly; removes carpet spots; moves items needed for vacuuming; polishes floors with burnishing machines; uses proper burnishing solution and buffing pads; ensures floors shine after burnishing; sweeps after burnishing; washes all beds from discharges and places clean linens; sets up discharge rooms for admission.
- Consistently maintains adequate supplies throughout the day; manages tools and equipment; performs complete thorough cleaning of area assigned per departmental procedures and supervisor instructions; empties trash receptacles; disposes properly; washes if necessary; replaces clean poly‑liners; sweeps hard floor surfaces; mops with germicidal solution; changes solution regularly.
- Must be able to communicate and understand simple directions in English.
- Must be able to read MSDS and chemical labels.
- Effective communication with all levels of the organization.
NYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for the role is $21.58 – $23.78 hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
