Campanion to Elder Adults at Duet-Care

We are looking for engaging and compassionate individuals who are interested in supporting older adults on the Upper East Side. A companion position can require just several hours per week, or as much as 30+ hours per week. This would be a great role for someone who is currently looking for some additional income from a meaningful job. We encourage folks to apply if they have had prior personal or professional caregiving experience.

Many of our clients are artists themselves, or lifelong patrons of the arts. They would benefit greatly from a strong connection to those working in the arts with whom they can share their life. This is not a position where you will be “left to your own devices” to support someone. You will receive ongoing support from our staff and social work team, as well as a detailed briefing on any client you meet.

This job does not require “hands‑on” care such as dressing or bathing assistance.

• Providing companionship to older adults and individuals with chronic conditions; this may include discussing current events or shared interests, or taking trips to cultural or entertainment venues
• Assisting with non-physical tasks such as meal preparation, grocery shopping, and light housework like folding laundry or throwing away leftover food items.
• Safety supervision, standby assistance with ambulation or certain other tasks, medication reminders, adherence to care plans
• For clients with dementia, you’ll need to communicate effectively, provide mental stimulation, and/or safety supervision as necessary.
