COMPENSATION: $65.00 per hour
SCHEDULE: On-site 2 days/week (14 hours/week) for 30 weeks (September to May)
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direction of the Associate Director of Student Health and Counseling Services, the College Public Health Nurse delivers non-clinical health education, case management, oversight of immunization compliance, and holistic wellness support to undergraduate and graduate students at the School of Visual Arts (SVA). This role serves as a public health subject matter expert for the College, supporting infection control efforts, managing communicable disease responses, and connecting a creative student-artist community with critical health resources.
Note: This is a public health, case management, and administrative RN/LPN role. It does not involve direct clinical care or hands-on medical services on campus.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION & PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT
- Design, implement, and facilitate online and in-person health promotion campaigns, workshops, and awareness events tailored to a diverse student-artist population.
- Actively participate in departmental staff meetings, case consultations, and multidisciplinary student support meetings.
- Serve as a departmental consultant on the College public health policies, staying informed on emerging campus and community health trends to guide best practices.
- Build and maintain an updated network of local community health resources.

IMMUNIZATION COMPLIANCE
- Oversee data entry, tracking, and verification of incoming student immunization records to ensure compliance with New York State Department of Health (NYS DOH) requirements.
- Prepare and submit the annual NYS DOH Immunization Report every October.
- Manage student communication regarding compliance deadlines, health requirements, and registration holds.
- Act as the primary campus liaison for students, faculty, staff, and external agencies regarding compliance procedures, medical exemptions, and religious exemptions.
- Serve as an advisory resource for campus-wide infection control, communicable disease tracking, and public health response coordination.
CASE MANAGEMENT & STUDENT SUPPORT
- Conduct initial assessments of non-urgent student health concerns and connect students with appropriate off-campus healthcare and community resources.
- Provide holistic case management for 'Students of Concern' (including students with medical-related Incident Reports or STAR/Students at Risk reports), initiating outreach and documenting ongoing support plans.
- Maintain complete, accurate, and confidential student health records using standard SOAP note documentation.
- Deliver individualized health education, wellness coaching, and self-care navigation.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- License: Active Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in the State of New York.
- Certifications: Current valid cardiopulmonary (CPR) and first aid certifications.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Education: Master's of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Public Health (MPH), Nursing Education, or Health Education degree preferred.
- Experience:
* Three (3+) years or more of related nursing and public health experience; or two (2+) years of experience working in higher education, healthcare administration, and health program management. - Technical

* Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), Google Workspace, and data entry/software systems, with a strong ability to learn new administrative technologies.
* Demonstrated experience with immunization tracking systems, Ellucian Colleague (or similar higher education ERPs), and data compliance. - Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential or Board Certification in College Health Nursing.
- Prior experience working with adolescents or college-aged populations.
- Professional fluency in a second or multiple languages is preferred.

- In-depth understanding of campus public health practices, student assessment, crisis intervention, SOAP note documentation, and NYS DOH immunization compliance standards.
- Ability to engage compassionately with students from diverse cultural, socio-economic, and artistic backgrounds, tailoring health messaging and support to their specific needs.
- High degree of diplomacy, tact, and confidentiality when handling sensitive student matters, incident reports (STAR reports), and individuals in distress.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills; proven ability to partner effectively with students, families, faculty, staff, and local healthcare providers.
