Position Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Placement + Rehab Counselor - Vocational Services. In this role, the successful candidate provides vocational rehabilitation and related support services including counseling, assessment, training, and job placement to individuals with physical, neurological, and psychiatric disabilities, under supervision.
Job Responsibilities- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Assesses client status and formulates appropriate vocational goal and plan; interprets medical, social, and psychological information, evaluates vocational history, current status, and options; utilizes effective assessment techniques when indicated; demonstrates good judgment in selecting, interpreting, and reporting data.
- Provides goal-directed, focused counseling; establishes rapport with the patient, explains the role of the rehabilitation counselor and vocational services; develops a therapeutic and supportive relationship, adjusts treatment plans as patient status changes, and initiates problem identification and strategy development.
- Implements and coordinates client training program; orients work‑site supervisors to the goals of the work‑readiness training program and their responsibilities of hosting a program trainee or intern; develops and maintains contacts with Medical Center departments and external organizations for placement of program participants at appropriate training sites; develops new training/intership sites to meet patient needs; provides onsite consultation, supervision, and job coaching;
uses professional judgment and creativity to present innovative solutions and treatment strategies; initiates referrals for support services and maintains timely contact with other treating clinicians or referring counselors regarding patient progress. - Provides effective job placement and follow‑up services; presents clients to the Business Advisory Committee; delivers job‑seeking skills training in group and individual sessions; prepares effective resumes and cover letters, teaches interview strategies; supplies clients with appropriate job postings and referrals and supports job search; follows up post‑placement with client and employer.
- Develops and maintains an employer network; initiates employer contacts and markets program candidates; follows up on job leads; attends Placement Consortium meetings; performs job market research and surveys new employers in growth industries; recruits members for the Business Advisory Committee.
- Documents all services and completes all program reports using clear, concise narrative following prescribed protocol and within established time frames; ensures case notes reflect patient status and progress toward goals; enters all reports and progress notes in Epic.
- Completes monthly statistics according to departmental time and procedural guidelines; documents external travel notification on appropriate form in a timely manner; documents safety occurrences on PSN.
- Demonstrates continued proficiency in skills required to treat the assigned patient population.
- M.S. degree in Rehabilitation Counseling or a related field.
- Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation software, and internet computer skills.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Rehabilitation Counseling certification.
- Experience providing direct job placement services to individuals with disabilities.

Salary RangeNYU Langone Health provides a salary range to comply with the New York state Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $53,294.21 – $69,960.00 annually. Actual salaries depend on experience, specialty, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses, incentive, differential pay, or other forms of compensation or benefits.
