Job Summary The role of the MPA will focus on authorizations and is responsible for obtaining pre-authorizations, verifying insurance coverage, and coordinating approvals for medical services, procedures, or medications before they are performed. They act as a liaison between healthcare providers, insurance companies, and patients to ensure that all necessary documentation is submitted and approvals are obtained efficiently, preventing delays in patient care and ensuring compliance with insurance and regulatory requirements.

The role of MPA is an administrative all-encompassing position that is comprised of workflows that adapt based on the needs of the practice. This position will greet patients upon arrival and ensure patients are seen by the provider accordingly. This medical office assistant will answer the phone and direct individuals to the appropriate channel as needed. In addition, this role will coordinate the provider's schedule to ensure patients are seen appropriately for their appointments, referrals and follow up appointments.

This MPA will verify insurance and collect payments and ensure payments are accurately recorded. In addition, this role may obtain prior authorizations for all medications, durable medical equipment, procedures, and diagnostic tests for all patients, including workers compensation and commercial payers. The MPA may coordinate surgical scheduling. In this role, the MPA will work with their supervisor and peers to ensure patient and customer satisfaction is delivered to create a best-in-class experience across the site(s).Essential

Functions
1. Ensure the front desk is neat, presentable, and equipped with all the necessary supplies such as pens, forms, and paper ADA
2. Greet patients professionally both in person and on the phone ADA
3. Facilitates correspondence with customers, patients, and colleagues to ensure satisfaction and patient care ADA
4. Confirmation of provider name, appointment time, pre-visit e-forms and any screening questions. ADA
5. Works collaboratively with other staff, managers, and resources ADA
6. Schedule surgical procedures and explain patient financial responsibilities. ADA
7. Answer and redirect phone calls to the appropriate department and take down messages. ADA
8. Manage and coordinate provider schedules, referrals and follow up appointments ADA
9. Obtain prior authorizations for all medications, durable medical equipment, and diagnostic test for all workers compensation and commercial payers. ADA
10. Verify financial records and insurance, collect patient charges, and confirm patient identification upon arrival. ADA
11. Pre-authorization of patient services and procedures via insurance. ADA
12. Notify providers and support staff of patient arrivals. ADA
13. Facilitation of referral process for additional specialty procedures and/or tests. ADA
14. Creation, cancelation and reschedule of patient appointments. ADA
15. Pre-authorization of patient services and procedures via insurance. (Tier dependent) ADA
16. Coordination of surgical scheduling. (Tier dependent) ADA
17. Ability to understand and apply workflows and job aids as indicated. ADA
