Emergency Medical Technician – Per Diem – Flex

Centralus Health Ambulance (CHT) provides emergency medical care and transport services. The EMT role is crucial in delivering high‑quality, compassionate care and ensuring safe patient transport.

Job Summary

EMTs at CHT provide basic life support (BLS), patient assessment, emergency care, and safe transport under medical direction. EMTs may also assist with interfacility transports, community paramedicine initiatives, and disaster response operations as directed.

Job Functions

    Education / Experience Qualifications Required
    • Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma (GED).
    • Valid New York State Emergency Medical Technician – Basic (EMT‑B) certification.
    • Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR certification.
    • NY State motor‑vehicle driver’s license Class D or higher for at least the prior three years.
    • Completion of FEMA Independent Study Courses: IS‑5.a, IS‑100.c, IS‑200.c, IS‑700.b, IS‑800.d (or latest versions).
    Preferred
    • Experience in a hospital‑based or system‑integrated EMS agency.
    • Associate’s degree.
    • Valid International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) certification.
    • FEMA IC‑300 and IC‑400 certifications.
    Physical and Other Requirements
  • Minimum eligibility: age 18, acceptable driver rating, acceptable QA status, no disqualifying criminal charges.
  • Training & Professional Readiness: complete initial training program and probation, engage in continuous training and annual requalification, meet minimum shift requirements.
  • Communication & Cognitive: effective communication via telephone, radio, in person; interpret oral and written instructions; maintain judgment under stress; read English materials; accurately discern street signs and environmental cues; interview patients and document information.
  • Physical: lift, carry, and balance up to 125 lbs; possess manual dexterity, bend, stoop, crawl, maneuver on uneven terrain; function throughout entire operational period; work in varied conditions; remain unaffected by loud noises or flashing lights.
  • Operational & Task Performance: complete required tasks and special assignments; adhere to operational safety standards, infection control protocols, and departmental guidelines.
  • Administrative & Health: annually submit physician‑signed health and wellness attestation and updated immunization record.
