Position Summary:

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Supervisor, Central Sterile Service (CSS) Supply - CRCST/CBSPD - Ambulatory Surgery Center Manhasset.

In this role, the successful candidate is responsible for the coordination of decontamination, sterilization, cleaning, and assembly of instruments and supplies dispensed by the Central Sterile Service. Adheres to all infection control practices, organizational policies, industry, Joint Commission (JCAHO), and Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) Standards. Directs the flow of the department to include making assignments for staff and coordinating surgical equipment and supply needs between the department and the procedural areas.

Responsible for the full scope of function of the department during the assigned shift.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Acts as the liaison between the Operating Room (OR), the Ambulatory Surgery Unit (ASU) and communicates to staff appropriately so that all priority trays are completed in a timely manner and in accordance with departmental policies and procedures. Ensures all loaner trays and equipment are processed and ready for scheduled cases.
  • Monitors OR, ASU and procedural area schedules to ensure that specific trays are ready for use. Directs workflow of the department as necessary.
  • Follows proper procedure for biological monitoring of sterilizers as per regulatory and hospital requirements. Responsible for daily review, compliance, and maintenance of all sterilization and biological monitoring records.
  • Accepts responsibility for the function of the department during the assigned shift. Oversees all technicians and is responsible for scheduling and assigning work. Communicates all open pending issues and provides a report to the subsequent supervisor or lead. Organizes in-service education, orientation, and training of staff.
  • Responsible for function of all decontamination and sterilization equipment. Trouble shoots, adjusts, and opens services call. Follows established protocols to return equipment to service.
  • Responsible for the proper identification, functionality, and preparation of surgical instruments for all hospital services.
  • Responsible for the processing of patient charge items.
Minimum Qualifications:

To qualify you must have a Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience. Certified and Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) OR Certification from the Certification for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD)
R 1- 2 years Central Service or Surgical Processing. Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques and procedures, sterilization techniques and procedures, infection control and work flow principles and requirements, equipment and supply processing. Demonstrated knowledge of all medical and surgical equipment and supplies within aHospital setting and the ability to identify items and ensure accuracy against catalog listing of surgical instruments and equipment.

Exercises responsible judgment to provide necessary supplies and equipment for patient care. Familiarity with a variety of surgical equipment, including but not limited to: dental, optometry/ophthalmology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, gastroenterology, ENT, GYN, cardiology, dermatology, urology, podiatry, and general surgery.
