Duties & ResponsibilitiesPurpose of Position:
This class of positions encompasses responsible clinical and administrative work of varying degrees of difficulty and responsibility involving day-to-day tasks of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services. Operates x-ray equipment, develops images, and prepares radiological areas, equipment, supplies and contrast materials. All personnel perform related work.
Performs responsible supervisory, administrative and clinical activities involving day-to-day supervision of an operating segment of the Radiology department in the delivery of radiological services, or performs specialized imaging procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography. There are two (2) types of assignments in this Level of positions.
For Specialized Imaging Assignments
, performs typical tasks of Assignment Levels I and II, as listed below, for special procedures with diagnostic and interventional radiography in Computerized Tomography, Magnetic Resonance Imaging or Mammography; and performs additional related Assignment Level III tasks described below, as applicable to this type of assignment.
For Supervisory Assignments
, in addition to performing duties of lower Assignment Levels at a more difficult and responsible level, performs the duties described below for Assignment Level III.
- Prepares radiological area, equipment, contrast materials and supplies, as needed for patients.
- Prepares patient for x-ray, explains procedures, transfers patient to table, positions patient and assists patient at end of procedures.
- Follows prescribed techniques to administer general and specific x-rays. Adjusts equipment, determines proper voltage, current and desired exposure time, arranges immobilization and support devices to obtain position of patient, adjusts lead shield, and selects proper imaging techniques.
- Develops images in accordance with photographic techniques.
- Observes patient and machine during procedure and reports unusual occurrences and records patient’s condition.
- Maintains supplies, equipment and required records.
- Transports and uses mobile x-ray equipment in patient care area as required.
- Follows all proper radiation, patient, and employee safety protocols; adheres to all appropriate radiation prevention, containment, and control measures.
- Effectively uses electronic medical records (EMR) to document patient encounters and access pertinent patient data and imaging results.
- Performs procedures on patients whose conditions require specialized expertise.
- Assists Radiologists, other physicians and allied health care professionals in performing diagnostic or treatment procedures.
- Performs diagnostic testing on equipment and general maintenance.
- Monitors patient and equipment condition during procedure and reports changes to appropriate health care professional.
