bureau of public health clinics (bphc) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing new yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. To achieve its mission, the bphc provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care;

monitors disease trends; provide education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develop policies and programs to deliver high-quality clinical care which best serve new yorkers.

position summary

the supervising public health adviser under the direction of the coordinator for disease intervention activities for the bureau of public health clinics (bphc) will be responsible for assisting in providing advanced public health support to promote the prevention, intervention, and control of sexually transmitted infections (stis) and other communicable diseases. The position reviews patient information, coordinates disease intervention activities, facilitates linkage to care, and supports the delivery of high-quality clinical and partner services.

This position works collaboratively with public health clinic staff, disease intervention specialists (dis), public health advisors (phas), healthcare providers, and community-based organizations to ensure timely and appropriate patient follow-up. This position will work closely with the coordinator for disease intervention activities.

job duties and responsibilities
  • assure that disease investigation and disease intervention activities are complete, timely and accurately documented in the appropriate public health information systems such as the electronic medical records (emr) and the surveillance date sexually transmitted infections (sti) registry maven while ensuring the compliance of federal, state, and local confidentiality regulations and mandated reporting.
  • evaluate and assess weekly and monthly internal health reports and make recommendations to ensure the effectiveness of services and the fulfillment of responsibilities.
  • assist and collaborate with colleagues at bureau of hepatitis, hiv and sexually transmitted infections (bhhs) in the development and revision of protocols and guidelines of services offered by public health advisors and support both bureau’s objectives.
  • actively seeks out and engages in relevant and innovative presentations and training opportunities to strengthen and advance the bureau’s mission.
  • support quality improvements initiatives, staff meetings, and training sessions to strengthen the program/bureau’s services and objectives.
  • assist in overseeing and coordinating disease intervention activities conducted by public health advisors, ensuring timely and effective responses, while providing recommendations for staff development or disciplinary actions as needed.
  • facilitates and sustains clear communication among colleagues, both within the agency and externally, to address the needs of staff and clients effectively.
  • serve as liaison between new york state providers and new york city public health clinics, ensuring timely and proper follow-up for common clients.
  • assist with ensuring that staff have received and met the required training and refreshers to ensure that the delivery of information and services to our clients is accurate and up‑to‑date.
  • serve as an acting coordinator for disease intervention activities for the bphc in their absence.
  • perform other related duties.
