Job Overview – School Physical Therapist
Compensation: $55–$60/hour

TAG Med Staffing is hiring a School Physical Therapist in New York, NY for our client, supporting pediatric physical therapy services for school-aged students during a temporary leave coverage. This role will provide individualized therapy, evaluate student progress, support mobility and positioning needs, and collaborate with families, educators, and multidisciplinary clinical teams. The ideal candidate is a licensed Physical Therapist with strong pediatric skills and experience supporting students with varying physical and developmental needs.
Responsibilities as the School Physical Therapist:
- Physical Therapy: Provide individualized physical therapy services based on student needs, treatment plans, and established educational goals.
- Treatment Planning: Develop, implement, and modify therapeutic interventions based on ongoing assessments, functional progress, and student outcomes.
- Mobility Support: Assess mobility, positioning, motor development, orthotic, and adaptive equipment needs to promote safe participation in the school environment.
- Progress Documentation: Maintain accurate therapy notes, evaluations, progress updates, recommendations, and other required student documentation.
- Team
Collaboration:
Coordinate with families, educators, clinical professionals, and support staff regarding therapy goals, equipment, mobility, positioning, and student safety. - Staff
Education:
Provide guidance and training to school staff on transfers, positioning, mobility assistance, and appropriate use of adaptive equipment.
Qualifications for the School Physical Therapist:
- Education: Degree in Physical Therapy from an accredited program is required, with a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) preferred.
- Licensure: Active New York State Physical Therapist license and current registration are required.
- Certification: Pediatric specialty certification or relevant pediatric therapy training is preferred.
- Experience: 2+ years of pediatric physical therapy experience is required,particularly within school-based or developmental settings.
- Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of pediatric mobility, positioning, adaptive equipment, therapeutic interventions, and school-based therapy practices is preferred.
- Technical
Skills:
Proficiency with Microsoft Office and electronic documentation tools is required. - Skills & Attributes: Strong communication, collaboration, organization, clinical judgment, adaptability, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple priorities are required.
