The Peer Specialist will provide person-centered, recovery-oriented, strength-based, and trauma-informed Peer support to ACI's Inpatient's program clients. The Peer Specialist will work as part of the Operations Department Team and other interdisciplinary team members with the ACI inpatient program, so patients are provided with the most comprehensive support to program participants in a therapeutic, addiction treatment setting.
Overview:The Peer Specialist provides daily operations programming and patient care support that assists ACI inpatient program patients in connecting to all patient services within the program and the community.
Responsibilities- Assists with the development, coordination, and documenting of patient participation in scheduled groups (non-clinical), scheduled activities, special events and skills-building training.
- Participates in the escorting of patients to/from scheduled/planned offsite appointments and onsite patient-related activities, special events, groups (all types) and skills-building training.
- Provides and documents weekly patient engagements/non-clinical group sessions.
- Assist patients with links to internal and external partners through offsite escorts.
- Supports the patient's screening, fresh air and smoke brakes.
- Develops and maintains relationships with participants to provide self-help tools, recovery, transitional, and pre-crisis/crisis supports while utilizing self-disclosure in an appropriate manner to assist with building rapport.
- Facilitates peer-led support groups for participants with substance use and/or behavioral health concerns, who may be resistant to, or awaiting formal treatment.
- Maintains accurate, efficient, and timely documentation of participant interactions and progress notes in an electronic case management system, with a focus on accurately collecting data for programmatic research purposes - as required.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality in compliance with agency and state guidelines
- Working knowledge of community-based treatment programs (substance use, mental health, etc.) and other support services and resources (housing, education, employment, vocational, etc.)
