Unit Overview & Patient Volume
 Average Monthly Deliveries: 80–90 (fluctuates by month)
 Unit Composition:
Mix of experienced RNs and new graduates who are still gaining specialized
OB experience
 Traveler Role:
Essential in supporting patient care due to the number of new graduate RNs
 Unit Specifics:
o 4 Labor/Delivery/Recovery (LDR) rooms, each with a private bath, shower, and spa tub
o 8 postpartum rooms with refrigerators and fold-out couches
o Operating rooms for Caesarean births
o A special care nursery
Candidate Requirements


Experience:

o Preferred: 3+ years of OB experience
 Consideration:
Candidates with less than 3 years may be accepted if they have
prior travel experience or have worked in a specialized OB setting
o Labor and Delivery, Postpartum, and antepartum care required
 L&D Requirements: circulate only
o Need to know how to stabilize an infant until transport gets there (NRP skills)
 Agency will need to help stabilize a newborn in the special care unit until the
transport team arrives from Albany Med. NICU babies typically do not stay at
Bassett for longer than 12 hours.
 Certifications (Required):
o BLS
o NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
o Intermediate Fetal Monitoring Certification (AWHONN or EFM is acceptable)
Transport Requirements
 Travelers may be required to assist with patient transport between units or facilities, including
ambulance transports to other locations.
o Please note that travelers are expected to go on transports for pregnant mothers, not
newborns.
 Travelers are expected to provide nursing care during transport within their scope of practice
and according to unit policy.
 This requirement will be reviewed with all candidates prior to assignment start to ensure
comfort and alignment with expectations.
Contract Details
 Contract Length: 13 weeks (shorter durations are not ideal due to coverage needs)
 Holiday Coverage:
Travelers must work every other holiday, similar to full-time staff (holiday
requests are approved based on unit needs)
Scheduling & Additional Openings
 Varied

Shift: Shifts are scheduled as 7a–7p or 7p–7a on an 8-week scheduling cycle, including
every other weekend and holiday. The team makes efforts to accommodate preferred shifts and
will offer block scheduling when possible, based on the staffing needs of the unit, but this is
never guaranteed. Clinicians are not expected to routinely switch between day and night shifts
without a consistent schedule pattern. However, if staffing needs change (for example, a need
for night coverage in a future week), they may be asked if they are willing to temporarily adjust
their shift
