Specimen Technician

Job Title

Pay Range: $15.00hr - $20.00hr

• High School diploma or equivalent.
• Basic understanding of computers.
• Data entry background with abilities to enter 6,000 alphanumeric keystrokes per hour.
• Ability to work in a biohazard environment, practicing good safety habits.
• Availability for weekends, holidays, on call, and overtime based on staffing needs.
• Strong interpersonal skills that foster a positive environment.
• Flexibility and ability to adapt to change.

• Perform general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department.
• Handle A-station, presort, pickup, and delivery of processed specimens to the laboratory.
• Perform imaging, microfilming, centrifugation, and aliquoting.
• Ensure all functions are performed with confidence, accuracy, and in a timely manner.
• Organize and understand specimen types related to tests ordered by the client.
• Learn and understand compliance regulations related to test ordering.
• Adhere to core values, safety, and compliance policies and procedures.
• Maintain a neat and clean work area.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff.

• Knowledge of laboratory testing and/or laboratory specimen processing.
• Previous laboratory experience.
• Medical background including medical terminology applicable to a clinical laboratory.
• Previous hospital laboratory experience.
• Previous experience in a production environment.
