Job Summary:

The Lead Multi-Modality Technologist is an experienced professional who leads and coordinates the operational and administrative functions of multiple services as described below. In this role, the incumbent will lead a collaborative team of technologists by directing staff activities and overseeing quality assurance and control activities. The incumbent will perform all duties associated with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving modality images, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the modality area covered.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
  • Perform imaging (CT, MRI, and/or PET/Nuclear Medicine) and general radiological procedures:
    • Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided. Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologist’s discretion, the referring physician.
    • Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
    • Observe patient while in the modality being covered for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
    • Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
    • Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
    • Administer contrast media via appropriate peripheral IV access as ordered and directed by staff.
  • Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
  • Train, assign, and delegate work to all technologists as necessary.
  • Conducts competency assessments for assigned Technologists as directed.
  • Review staffing levels to ensure adequate coverage on a daily basis.
  • Assign or coordinate technologist coverage/schedule to ensure that coverage is maintained, especially during heavy demand.
  • Support Practice Manager on recruitment, onboarding, performance appraisals, and disciplinary activities for technologists.
  • Manage day-to-day QC activities; delegate process as appropriate for the assigned and/or satellite sites.
  • Maintain and update Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) as assigned by the Practice Manager.
  • Manage or lead annual inspections, ensuing QC and regulatory manuals are current.
  • Prepare and submit ACR accreditation materials.
  • Work with vendors, facilities, IT and physics to evaluate new equipment, installation and staff training to ensure equipment is ready for patient care.
  • Contribute ideas for improving practice workflows to team members, providers, and management. Works with management to implement performance improvement initiatives and related directives.
  • Ensures and reinforces clinical and environmental regulatory compliance, as directed by practice administrators.
  • Other duties as assigned.
