Job Description:

The Occupational Therapist is responsible for providing comprehensive occupational therapy services to patients by evaluating functional abilities, interpreting clinical findings, and developing individualized plans of care in collaboration with physicians and other members of the interdisciplinary care team. This position provides therapeutic interventions that may include therapeutic exercises and activities, modalities, activities of daily living training, orthotic management, and vocational and homemaking skills.

The role monitors patient progress, modifies treatment plans as appropriate, and supports patients in achieving established therapeutic goals and the highest possible level of functional independence

Responsibilities:

  • Performs comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations and develops individualized, safe, and effective plans of care based on the patient’s physical abilities, cognitive status, psychosocial needs, functional goals, and individual preferences.
  • Provides occupational therapy interventions, including therapeutic exercises and activities, modalities, activities of daily living training, and vocational and homemaking activities, in accordance with the established plan of care.
  • Monitors and documents patient progress, completes timely reassessments, evaluates response to treatment, and modifies the plan of care as clinically appropriate to support established therapeutic and functional goals.
  • Performs activities of daily living assessments and training for rehabilitation inpatients and develops recommendations to support safe functional performance and discharge planning.
  • Measures, fabricates, and provides appropriate upper-extremity orthoses and instructs patients and caregivers in the safe use and care of orthotic, prosthetic, wheelchair, and other adaptive equipment.
  • Provides clear, individualized patient and caregiver education and adapts communication and treatment approaches for patients with cognitive, communication, language, or other barriers affecting participation in therapy.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and timely clinical documentation, reports, and other required records in accordance with department procedures, hospital policies, and applicable regulatory and professional standards.
  • Participates in departmental Performance Improvement and Quality Improvement activities and maintains compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, patient safety, and clinical practice requirements.
  • Maintains appropriate treatment supplies and equipment, identifies departmental needs, and completes requisitions in a timely manner to support continuity of patient care.
