Job Title:
Medical Assistant
Location: New York, NY
Pay Rate: $22/hr on W2
Schedule: Monday Friday, 8:30 AM 4:30 PM
Contract: 13
Weeks with possible extension
Medical Assistant Contract position with Mount Sinai Health System in New York, NY. The Medical Assistant will provide both clinical and administrative support in an outpatient/office environment, assisting physicians with patient care, procedures, documentation, scheduling, and maintaining efficient patient flow.
Key Responsibilities- Perform venipuncture/phlebotomy, EKGs, vital signs, specimen collection, and point-of-care testing.
- Prepare patients and examination rooms for physician visits and procedures.
- Assist physicians with various clinical procedures.
- Support patients with walking, transferring, dressing, and other needs.
- Collect, process, and properly handle patient specimens.
- Manage patient flow and accompany patients to examination/procedure rooms.
- Enter physician orders and prepare prescription refill requests in the EMR.
- Maintain and update patient charts, medical records, test results, and documentation.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and procedures as needed.
- Register patients and update demographic and insurance information.
- Verify insurance and assist with pre-certification for procedures.
- Maintain medical supplies, check expiration dates, and restock supplies.
- Set up and maintain examination instruments according to sterilization and infection-control policies.
- Maintain required logs for medications, point-of-care testing, sterilization, crash carts, and refrigeration.
- Answer patient calls and provide appropriate information.
- Follow HIPAA, PPE, safety, infection-control, and hospital policies.
- Medical Assistant Certificate from an approved school
- Required - BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) - Required
- High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
- English proficiency
- Speak, Read, Write - Knowledge of medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
- Excellent telephone etiquette.
- Ability to work effectively in a growing and changing environment.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) certification preferred.
- EMR or medical billing system experience preferred.
- Medical Assistant Certificate Required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) American Heart Association (AHA) Required
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) Preferred
