Location: New York

A Nutritional Navigator helps individuals access food resources, understand dietary guidance, and connect with support programs like SNAP or clinical nutrition care. Nutritional navigators act as a bridge between community members, food assistance programs, and healthcare providers. They often work for community health centers, social service agencies, or state nutrition programs to remove economic and logistical barriers to healthy eating.

Responsibilities Resource Connection:
Help clients apply for food assistance benefits like the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and locate local food pantries or meal programs.

Education & Guidance:
Deliver basic nutritional education, healthy shopping tips, and meal planning strategies tailored to a client’s health needs or budget.

Care Coordination:
Partner with dietitians, social workers, and medical providers to support patients requiring specialized diets (such as oncology or chronic disease management support).Outreach & Advocacy:
Attend community events, health fairs, and workshops to promote nutrition programs and build relationships with local resource networks.

Documentation:
Track client interactions, maintain accurate records, and measure program outcomes using basic database or tracking software.

Qualifications

Education:

High school diploma with relevant community experience, or a bachelor’s degree in public health, health communication, social work, or a related field.

Skills:

Strong interpersonal communication, active listening, familiarity with local social services, and often bilingual capabilities (such as English/Spanish).Clinical Settings (Alternative/Advanced):
Some roles require an RN or an RDN credential when focusing heavily on clinical patient support, such as managing tube-feeding transitions or chronic disease adherence.
