Job Summary

This position supports the Child and Youth Center affiliated with Fort Drum, NY. Candidates must be local to Fort Drum, NY, and hold a current independent license as a Mental Health Counselor (LPC or LMHC), Therapist (LMFT), Social Worker (LCSW) or equivalent independent licensure.

Responsibilities
  • Provide full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to children of all ages of military service members and their families at military installations, including civilian expeditionary workforce.
  • Deliver non‑medical counseling, brief counseling, action planning, and referrals to resources, ensuring linkage as appropriate.
  • Offer training and health‑and‑wellness presentations and participate in health fairs and other base/installation activities focused on children and youth.
  • Maintain accurate counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web application while protecting confidentiality.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with community resources focused on children and youth and provide appropriate linkages.
  • Serve as a visible resource at assigned locations to make MFLC services accessible and adhere to line‑of‑sight protocol.
  • Partner with Installation and Military Branch Points of Contact (POC) to provide services that meet installation needs.
  • Manage duty‑to‑warn and restricted reporting situations according to Department of Defense (DoD) protocol, and coordinate with Regional Supervisors/Regional Director.
  • Communicate with Regional Supervisors and participate in regular individual and group supervision, sharing information on trends and issues.
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests as directed by the POC and approved by the Office of Secretary of Defense (OSD) program manager.
  • Flex schedule to respond to urgent requests as needed or at the request of the Regional Supervisor/Regional Director.
  • Participate in regular in‑services, training, quality‑improvement committees, pilots, and other contract activities.
  • Complete all required activity documentation and integrate pilot activities into non‑medical counseling work.
  • Perform any other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a mental health‑related field.
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a state, District of Columbia, U.S. territory or Commonwealth granting authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner.
  • Minimum of two years of post‑license clinical experience.
  • Demonstrated intermediate‑level competency in technology and software (Microsoft Suite, internet navigation, smartphone/tablet and application navigation, video‑conferencing platform navigation).
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children in any installation or school setting, including traversing varied terrain and conditions.
  • Compliance with site‑specific requirements such as current immunizations or vaccinations, and proof of U.S. citizenship with proficiency in English.
  • Sensitivity, empathy for children, service members and families, ability to develop trusting, helping relationships, and work effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Pass a Child National Agency Check and Inquiries (CNACI) Clearance and an Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal History Background Check and FBI Fingerprints Check.
  • Valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license; may also be required to obtain a U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for temporary duty locations.
  • Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology. School‑assigned counselors must have past work experience in a school setting.
