The Mental Health Technician (MHT) works in a collaborative role with the Registered Nurse, providing direct care to individual and group psychiatric patients. Work is conducted during a day shift of 7.5 hours in the United States.
Responsibilities- Organize and implement group activities in conjunction with the unit program and other staff.
- Perform procedures associated with activities of daily living and personal hygiene of patients.
- Demonstrate a humanistic and caring attitude.
- Apply basic knowledge of desired effects and side effects of psychotropic medications.
- Establish and foster collegial relationships with peers and other disciplines.
- Maintain openness and responsiveness to diverse backgrounds and experiences, promoting a culturally sensitive environment.
- Apply therapeutic skills in crisis intervention.
- Perform supplemental components of nursing admission.
- Recognize changes in a patient’s mental status and share findings with the primary nurse.
- Support morale and milieu management.
- Minimum 2 years of experience in an acute psychiatric setting.
- Excellent reading, writing, and speaking skills in English.
- Orientation toward consumer satisfaction.
- Physical stamina, manual dexterity, and visual and aural acuity required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
- Certification in emergency response (CPI or PMCS) preferred.
- Experience with EKG and Phlebotomy preferred.
High school diploma required; a Bachelor of Science (BS) or 60 credits toward a BS in a related field preferred.
SalaryHourly rate: $28.61 – $33.98 per hour.
