The Director of Child & Adol. Psychiatry (CAP) at Mount Sinai Mount Sinai Morningside and West is responsible for the overall clinical operation and performance of the CAP services at these two sites. The Director is responsible for the content and delivery of acute and ambulatory CAP services consistent with the standards and goals of the Mount Sinai Behavioral Health System (MSBHS).

The following services are in the scope of this position:

1) Mount Sinai St. Morningside:

  • Child Family Institute Outpatient Clinic
  • CARES Program
  • Babcock 5 Child/Adol Psych Inpatient
  • Consultation to Emergency Dept
  • CFTSS and Health Home CMA Programs (jointly referred to as Waiver)

2) Mount Sinai West:

  • Consultation to Emergency Dept
Responsibilities

Specific Responsibilities:

I. General Operations:

  • Responsible for the day to day operations and overall performance of all CAP services (inpatient, emergency, ambulatory) at the two sites
  • Ensures the provision of excellent clinical care to patients in services, as evidenced by both qualitative and quantitative measures (ie, LOS, readmission rates, HBIPS, patient satisfaction, adverse incidents, morbidity/mortality, and other quality and outcome measures)
  • Ensures the provision of safe and high quality care in the acute care services consistent and compliant with all state, federal, and other accrediting body regulations
  • Oversees and collaborates with discipline-specific leaders to ensure performance, content and delivery of care of all staff in these services, including Nursing, Social Work, and Rehab Therapy. Promote collaboration among disciplines through leadership at clinical team meetings
  • Leads development and revision of policies and procedures, in collaboration with other disciplines such as pharmacy and nursing, and assures service adherence with all policies
  • Ongoing development and refinement of Ambulatory care operations including strategies to ensure and improve patient access, satisfaction and cost effective delivery of best-practice care
  • Development and execution of performance improvement initiatives including creation and refinement of system to track clinical outcomes
  • Collaborates with other departments, agencies and physicians to develop, improve or standardize clinical work flows.
  • Effectively collaborates with training program leadership and ensures appropriate education and training experiences of adult residents, CAP fellows, students and other trainees in the CAP Division

II. Medical Staff:

  • Directs supervises and oversees the performance, content and delivery of care of all Medical Staff in these services
  • Provide individual clinical and administrative supervision of Medical Staff in Ambulatory settings, and clinical supervision of Inpatient Staff including monitoring and evaluating the quality and appropriateness of services and treatment provided by the medical staff.
  • Assures appropriate Medical Staff coverage for all sites and services, and develops appropriate and flexible staffing patterns to provide appropriate and timely patient care
  • Leads medical staff recruitment activities for CAP services

III. Safety/Quality/Risk Management

  • Is a standing member of the Departmental Safety and Quality Committee and is responsible for the prompt investigation and corrective actions for all adverse events in the CAP division
  • Enhances safety and quality initiatives with development of preventative measures/programs to proactively prevent error, mitigate risk of adverse events
  • Provides leadership of quality improvement and Hospital initiatives, has accountability for unit performance dashboards and key performance indicators

IV. Fiscal/Other Administrative

  • Ensures appropriate, accurate, and timely completion of clinical documentation and billing materials to ensure optimal revenue collections
  • Ensures adherence to all state and federal billing regulations by medical staff in the in ambulatory and acute care services.
  • Reviews and manages any payment denials for the acute care services and proactively addresses issues to mitigate risk of denials in collaboration with Program Manager
  • Represents as the Leader of MSMW CAP services to other departments within MSMW, MSBHS, MSHS and external governmental and non-governmental agencies as needed/requested
  • Leads and/or participates in MSBHS system initiatives, and ensures participation and adherence of MSMW CAP services to MSBHS system initiatives/programming
