Long Island University (LIU) invites dynamic healthcare and academic leaders to apply for the combined role of Program Director and Assistant/Associate Professor of Physician Assistant Studies within the School of Health Professions at LIU Brooklyn. The Department of Physician Assistant (PA) Studies in the School of Health Professions is seeking a full-time, program director, non-tenure track assistant/associate professor in our Master of Science program.

This is a nine-month faculty position with a twelve-month administrative position requiring didactic and clinical teaching; student advisement, remediation, and retention; university committee participation; and assessment evaluation as per ARC-PA and university standards.

About The Program

The Long Island University PA Program is an intensive 28-month professional Master of Science course of study designed to shape the next generation of compassionate, highly skilled medical practitioners. Set in the vibrant urban campus environment of Downtown Brooklyn with robust clinical partnerships across the New York metropolitan area, our program combines rigorous didactic coursework, hands-on laboratory learning, and 15 months of premier clinical rotations.

It holds a legacy as one of the oldest and most established PA programs in the New York City metropolitan area. The new Program Director and faculty member will champion an innovative curriculum that emphasizes evidence-based practice, interprofessional collaboration, and student-centered mentorship, all while shaping future leaders in the Physician Assistant profession.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach didactic and clinical year students: both lectures, laboratories and small group learning
  • Provide remediation instruction to ensure student success
  • Review and update PA syllabi and curricula
  • Work collaboratively with members of the PA and university faculty/administration
  • Advise students in both didactic and clinical years
  • Participate in clinical site visits as needed
  • Participate in student recruitment and retention activities
  • Promote the PA Program and PA profession to potential students and community
  • Participate in the review, interviewing and selection of applicants for admission to the PA Program
  • Participate in ARC-PA program assessment, data collection and analysis and preparation of self-study reports
  • Work collaboratively with members of the PA and university faculty/administration
  • Serve on Departmental, School of Health Professions and University committees
Minimum Qualifications
  • NCCPA-certified Physician Assistant (PA-C) with current or emeritus NCCPA certification
  • Current New York State PA license or eligibility for licensure in New York State
  • Master’s degree or higher from an accredited physician assistant program
  • Three years full-time higher education experience
  • Teaching experience is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, organizational, and administrative skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills
