The Medical Staff Credentialing Specialist is a full-time, on-site role based in New York, NY. This role is responsible for coordinating and processing credentialing and re-credentialing for medical staff and allied health professionals, ensuring compliance with hospital bylaws, regulatory standards, and payer requirements. The Specialist reviews applications, verifies licenses, certifications, education, training, and work history, and maintains accurate credentialing records in designated systems.
Day-to-day activities include communicating with providers and departments to obtain required documentation, resolving discrepancies, and supporting medical staff committees with credentialing‑related reports and materials. The role also involves working with Medicare and other payers, supporting audits, and collaborating with internal teams to help ensure timely onboarding and continuous eligibility of clinical staff.
- Candidates should possess strong skills in Medical Staff Credentialing and Credentialing processes, including primary source verification and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Candidates should possess effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact professionally with providers, internal departments, and external agencies.
- Candidates should possess Customer Service skills to support medical staff and departments with timely, accurate information and responsive assistance.
- Relevant additional qualifications include attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience with credentialing software or healthcare information systems and familiarity with hospital bylaws, Joint Commission, and other regulatory standards are beneficial.
- Prior experience in a hospital or healthcare setting and an associate or bachelor’s degree in a related field (such as Health Administration or Business) are preferred.
- Professional certification in medical staff services or provider credentialing (e.g., CPCS or CPMSM) is a plus
