Position: Hotel Front Desk Assistant Manager (Temporary)
Location: New York

Job Summary

The Assistant Front Office Manager is the onsite leader of daily operations of the hotel. In the absence of the General Manager, the Assistant Front Office Manager represents the hotel and the company with all guests, clients, and associates, and is responsible for consistently delivering results that contribute to the mission and overall success of the hotel.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Deliver on the promise of Sonesta Service in all interactions with guests and clients.
  • Manage according to Sonesta G.U.E.S.T. standards and instill a passion for customer service in all associates.
  • Create processes and procedures to ensure the hotel is properly supplied with all guest amenities, and that all food and beverage outlets meet guest expectations.
  • Ensure the hotel is properly maintained and clean through proper training and equipping of staff.
  • Manage front office and reservation functions to ensure delivery of superior guest services, security of monies, credit card transactions and guest information.
  • Manage approvals, billing, and collections of hotel’s accounts receivable.
  • Prepare month‑end reporting for hotel financial reports.
  • Manage housekeeping and laundry functions to ensure compliance with quality and brand standards.
  • Establish and inspect procedures to keep guest rooms and public areas clean and in proper condition.
  • Supervise daily execution of breakfast, evening social, and pour‑food beverage operations to maintain standards of operation and quality.
  • Stock and maintain the shoppe convenience store in an orderly and appealing manner.
  • Monitor inventory and order replenishments in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Control department expenses and work with the General Manager on budget variances.
  • Purchase and requisition inventory to maintain adequate stocks of all food, beverage, material, and equipment.
  • Monitor and control food and beverage costs, ensuring proper storage and minimizing waste.
  • Manage and report on human resources and benefits programs for Front Desk, Food & Beverage, and Housekeeping departments, including recruiting, onboarding, training, performance management, and offboarding.
  • Manage and report on the use, maintenance and location of IT hardware and software provided to the departments.
  • Manage and report on purchasing of all supplies, leveraging purchasing power and analyzing hotel spending.
  • Implement service‑recovery guidelines to ensure complete guest satisfaction.
  • Respond promptly and professionally to guest complaints or concerns.
  • Promote teamwork and quality service through daily communication and coordination with other shifts and departmental management.
  • Attend evening social and breakfast events as a representative of management and prospect for additional sales leads.
  • Enforce hotel standards, policies, and procedures within the operations departments.
  • Act as “Manager on duty” as required.
  • Sell hotel rooms through direct client contact.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state and local laws regarding health, safety, and alcohol services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Hotel Administration, Business Administration, or related field preferred.
  • Two years of previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Previous background from the extended stay industry preferred.
  • Fluent in English (spoken, read and written); other languages beneficial.
  • Professional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Mathematical skills, including basic math, budgeting, profit/loss concepts, percentages, and variances.
  • Problem‑solving, reasoning, motivating, organizational and training abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work assignments.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and Opera systems preferred.
  • Ability to travel, including some overnight travel.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
  • Occupational requirements: frequently stand, bend, climb, kneel; moving, handling items up to 50 pounds; exposure to commercial cleaning chemicals; ability to obtain Serv Safe certification.
Compensation

Hourly Compensation Range: $27.75 – $31.25. Base pay may vary based on knowledge, skills, experience, and job specifics.
