Position Overview

The Adirondak Loj Front Desk Staff are the welcoming face of the Heart Lake Program Center, providing exceptional hospitality and support to guests, hikers, and visitors. This role offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic environment surrounded by the beautiful High Peaks region, where customer service and a love of the outdoors meet.

As part of the Adirondack Mountain Club (ADK) team, Front Desk Staff ensure that every visitor’s experience is positive, informative, and memorable—helping promote ADK’s mission of responsible recreation and environmental stewardship.

Key Responsibilities
  • Guest Services: Greet, check in, and assist overnight guests, campers, and day visitors with a friendly, professional attitude.
  • Reservations & Sales: Manage phone, email, and in-person reservations using ADK’s booking system; process payments and retail transactions accurately.
  • Information &

    Education:

    Provide accurate information about local trails, current conditions, park regulations, ADK programs, and membership opportunities.
  • Communication: Serve as the main point of contact between guests and Loj operations (housekeeping, kitchen, maintenance, etc.).
  • Administrative Tasks: Maintain accurate records, balance daily transactions, and complete routine reports as assigned.
  • Safety & Compliance: Support ADK’s safety policies, emergency response procedures, and Leave No Trace principles.
  • Facility Support: Assist with light housekeeping, lobby organization, and restocking brochures or retail items to keep the front desk and public areas tidy and welcoming.
Qualifications

Required

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-focused mindset
  • Ability to multitask and remain calm under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Basic computer and point-of-sale system skills
  • Reliability, punctuality, and attention to detail
  • Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and flexible shift

Preferred

  • Knowledge of the Adirondack Park, hiking safety, and Leave No Trace principles
  • CPR/First Aid certification (training may be provided)

Physical & Environmental Conditions

  • Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs
  • Comfortable working in a remote, rustic environment in all seasons
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Pay Rate: Competitive hourly wage based on experience
