The Banquet Manager is responsible for the successful execution of banquet events of all sizes. This role requires strong communication, planning, multitasking, and attention to detail. The Banquet Manager leads the Captains and Service staff and partners across departments to ensure consistently flawless service for clients and guests.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Hire, train, supervise, counsel, and provide direction to the banquet team in partnership with the Director of Banquets.
- Provide performance feedback for all Service staff for the annual performance evaluations.
- Conduct pre-event meetings with Banquet Captains and service staff to confirm setup, timing, service standards, and menu knowledge.
- Oversee Banquet Captains and servers throughout each event to ensure smooth and consistent execution.
- Manage day-of needs for corporate and social events, including vendor coordination, event timing, client communication, and service flow.
- Prepare and maintain accurate BEOs and floor plans; communicate relevant updates and changes to all departments.
- Serve as the liaison between Banquet Services and all operational departments, collaborating to ensure successful events.
- Complete special projects and assignments that support continuous improvement.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and well-organized work area.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled meetings and training sessions.
- Perform other reasonable duties as assigned by the management team.
Skills and Abilities:
- At least two years of college-level coursework with an emphasis in business or communications required.
- Bachelor's degree in Hotel Management, Business Administration, Marketing, Communications, or a related field preferred.
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
- At least four years of food and beverage or restaurant experience, including two years of banquet service management experience.
- Strong food and beverage knowledge and a high level of banquet service expertise.
- Proficiency in a Windows-based environment, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a strong commitment to guest satisfaction.
- Ability to supervise a large team and accomplish goals within established timelines.
- Ability to work effectively with internal and external customers, gather accurate information, and resolve conflicts.
- Ability to direct team members and ensure assigned tasks are completed.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to read, write, and speak English effectively with internal and external customers.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and supervise teams to ensure guest satisfaction.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage stressful situations, and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
- A service-oriented mindset with a commitment to teamwork and going above and beyond.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of the position, including meeting productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 30 pounds and push or pull up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to stand, bend, and stoop on a consistent basis.
- Maintain a professional appearance and professional conduct when interacting with guests and team members.
- Know and follow all Pier Sixty emergency, safety, and health procedures.
- Follow all policies and procedures outlined in training materials and the Team Member Handbook.
- Follow established sign-in and sign-out procedures for keys, as applicable.
