The Opportunity:

We are conducting a confidential search for a Director of Human Resources on behalf of a globally recognized, high-profile entertainment and media business headquartered in New York City. This is a rare opportunity to serve as the senior people leader and make a meaningful impact on organizational performance, culture, and strategic growth.

The Director of HR will lead the full people function for the organization, reporting directly to the CFO. This individual will serve as both strategic advisor and hands‑on operator — equally comfortable partnering with executive leadership on workforce strategy as they are managing benefits renewals, overseeing payroll, or navigating sensitive employee relations matters.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Partnership
  • Partner closely with executive leadership to align HR strategy with business goals.
  • Lead high‑impact initiatives including compensation benchmarking, headcount planning, and job leveling.
Compensation, Benefits & HR Operations
  • Oversee compensation structures, incentive programs, and benefits offerings.
  • Lead annual benefits renewal process, partnering directly with brokers and insurers.
Employee Relations & Culture
  • Serve as escalation point for employee relations matters; conduct investigations with discretion.
Talent Management & Development
  • Oversee recruitment strategies across corporate functions.
Compliance & Risk Management
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local labor laws.
  • Oversee wage and hour, leave administration, and policy management.
  • Lead and develop a small HR team (2 direct reports).
Ideal Candidate Profile

We are seeking a proven HR generalist who has led the function end‑to‑end within a small‑to‑mid‑sized enterprise or standalone business unit.

Must‑Have

Experience:
  • 10+ years of progressive HR experience.
  • 5+ years leading and developing an HR team.
  • Full ownership of the HR function (not solely a specialist in one vertical).
  • Direct experience managing benefits program renewals and broker relationships.
  • Strong employee relations background with sound judgment and discretion.
  • Comfort partnering with senior executives in a fast‑paced, creative, high‑visibility business.
