Job Summary

The Benefits Assistant oversees and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the district's employee benefit programs, including health and life insurance, supplemental plans, tax-sheltered accounts, and employee leave programs. The position ensures accurate processing and documentation, supports compliance with board policy, collective bargaining agreements, third-party administrators, and applicable state and federal laws, and works closely with Payroll, Borough Risk Management, and Human Resources staff to support consistent and effective benefits operations.

Starting Hourly Rate: Grade 5: $65,806.83 - $90,930.74 DOE
Work Day: 8 hours per day
Work Year: 12 months
Bargaining Unit: Non-Represented

Job Qualifications / Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or four (4) years of directly related experience in human resources, benefits administration, or a closely related field, including exposure to employee leave programs.
  • Proficiency with personal computers and software applications such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and Adobe Acrobat for data management, reporting, and communication.
  • Knowledge of employee benefit plan administration, Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) and Alaska Family Leave Act (AFLA) provisions, retirement programs, and applicable employment laws.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Must hold and maintain a valid State of Alaska driver's license and the ability to receive and maintain access to military bases.
