The Role
Output has built a biological reasoning model that understands biology at the scale and complexity life actually operates. Our model independently learned the principles of molecular interactions, opening up drug treatments that were previously impossible. We are already generating therapies that traditional approaches cannot reach. The hardest problems in both AI and biology are being solved here, and there is room for you to own one.
Output is currently in stealth, operated by a team of repeat founders and biotech veterans with multiple exits in AI × Bio, and backed by top‑tier VCs including Y Combinator.
You will build Output's team. This is a full‑cycle recruiting role covering every hire from AI research scientists to computational biologists to drug discovery leads. You need to understand both the AI/ML research community and the biotech talent landscape well enough to source, screen, and close candidates who work at the intersection of the two.
- Own end‑to‑end recruiting across all roles: sourcing, outreach, screening, managing interview loops, and closing.
- Build and maintain a candidate pipeline through proactive sourcing, networking, and long‑term relationship building with researchers and scientists in AI, biology, and drug discovery.
- Conduct first‑round screening interviews, evaluating candidates with enough technical fluency to distinguish real depth from surface familiarity in AI/ML and computational biology.
- Design and continuously improve screening frameworks and interview processes, ensuring Output identifies exceptional talent efficiently and consistently.
- Represent Output at key venues including AI conferences (NeurIPS, ICML, ICLR) and biotech events, building relationships with researchers, PhD students, and postdocs.
- Partner with the founders and hiring managers to define roles, set hiring strategy, and ensure every candidate experiences a rigorous and human process.
- Own and maintain the ATS, keeping pipeline data clean and using it to track progress, identify bottlenecks, and improve workflows.
- Manage the process through to offer: structuring competitive compensation packages, presenting offers to candidates, and handling negotiations on equity, salary, and terms.
- 3+ years of full‑cycle technical recruiting experience with a meaningful focus on AI/ML, research, or engineering roles.
- Track record of sourcing and closing niche technical talent in highly competitive markets.
- Enough technical fluency in AI/ML to screen research candidates credibly: understand the difference between someone who has trained models and someone who has used APIs, and assess publication records and research depth.
- Comfortable building proactive sourcing strategies and cultivating long‑term candidate relationships, not just filling open roles.
- Familiarity with the AI/ML research community: key conferences, top labs, publication venues, and how researchers evaluate opportunities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with researchers and scientists who are skeptical of recruiting outreach.
- Working knowledge of startup compensation structures, including equity, vesting, and how to position offers competitively against well‑funded AI labs.
- Comfortable working in a stealth environment where brand recognition is limited and substance must sell the opportunity.
- Experience recruiting in biotech, drug discovery, or computational biology in addition to AI/ML.
- First or early recruiter at a startup, building processes from scratch.
- Experience with ATS platforms (Ashby, Greenhouse, or similar).
- Experience building university partnerships or intern/new‑grad pipelines.
- Scientific or technical background that gives deeper candidate assessment ability.
