Position SummaryThe HR Operations Assistant provides administrative, clerical, and employee engagement support to GrowNYC’s Human Resources team. The role offers exposure to a broad range of HR functions and focuses on creating a positive employee experience throughout the entire employee lifecycle.
Responsibilities Administrative Duties- Oversee the entire employee onboarding lifecycle, including issuing offer letters, executing I‑9 verifications, and managing mandatory training assignments.
- Coordinate the employee offboarding process, preparing termination notices, organizing required paperwork, and managing asset collection.
- Provide temporary operational coverage and comprehensive administrative assistance to the HR team as needed.
- Maintain a welcoming workplace: manage office upkeep, create employee nameplates, and assist with team social events.
- Schedule and conduct bi‑monthly “HR Town Hall” meetings.
- Assist with the development of wellness programs and other initiatives.
- Manage HR programs such as Employee Recognition and Birthday Acknowledgements.
- Participate in other programs’ weekly or bi‑weekly meetings to engage colleagues and share HR news.
- Assist with the LMS platform (setup, upkeep, feedback).
- Support team members in navigating the platform.
- Create training content on relevant HR policies and topics.
- Attend monthly meetings to discuss the training plan.
- Meet weekly with the Talent Acquisition Manager to discuss recruiting matters and update relevant projects.
- Screen resumes for open positions and assist with phone screenings, interviews, and reference checks.
- Schedule interviews and update the Applicant Tracking System.
- Post job openings on job forums as needed.
- Attend hiring meetings with managers to assist in recruiting efforts and performance support.
- Help edit and update job descriptions and posts.
- Support continuous improvement of talent processes at all levels.
- 1–2 years of experience in a Human Resources, People Operations, or similar administrative support role.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize and meet deadlines in a fast‑paced environment.
- Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work independently to identify improvement opportunities.
- Highly detail‑oriented with a creative, innovative, solution‑focused mindset.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to build positive, collaborative relationships.
- Data‑analysis skills to support HR initiatives and decision‑making.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and Google Workspace;
Adobe Creative Suite and Canva preferred.
- Knowledge of Paylocity or similar payroll platforms.
- Knowledge of TalentLMS or similar learning platforms.
- Interest in food justice and equitable policies.
- Ability to be seated for long periods of time and travel within the five boroughs as needed.
The position is Monday–Friday, 9 am–5 pm (35–40 hours per week). The role is on‑site at GrowNYC’s downtown Manhattan office (three days). In‑office presence is required every Wednesday. Occasional off‑site work may be required, including visits to the GrowNYC Food Hub and job fairs across NYC.
Compensation and BenefitsThis non‑exempt, salaried position offers $52,000–$55,000 per year, commensurate with experience. Full benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, long‑term disability, incentive savings plan, paid time off, Public Service Loan Forgiveness, and potential parental leave for eligible employees.
LocationDowntown Manhattan, New York, NY (on‑site). Occasional travel to other NYC locations may be required.
