POSITION PURPOSEThe Director of Human Resources is responsible for staffing qualified personnel, ensuring compliance with employment statutes, overseeing all aspects of wage, benefits, worker’s compensation, and unemployment, and managing training programs, implementation, and administration. This role also involves coaching, counseling, and discipline for employee relations within assigned hotel.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONSAVERAGE
OF TIME
60% Support day-to-day human resources processes and assist the SVP Operations and Hotel Manager in implementing hotel strategy, including coaching and counseling recruits, hiring and retaining the best employees, and ensuring compliance with Union Local 6 agreements. Assist in reward and recognition programs, training strategies, and fostering positive labor relations in accordance with union guidelines.
20% Act as liaison between hotel staff and the Executive team. The director of Human Resources for the property directly facilitates, in conjunction with hotel managers, open employee communications to discern grievances and respond to those grievances in all appropriate manners, including redressing those meriting corrections. Oversee all employee relations and labor-related matters as they relate to federal, state, and local employment and civil rights laws, including, but not limited to, Title VII, ADA, ADEA, FMLA, FLSA, Equal Pay Act, Pregnancy Discrimination Act, workers’ compensation and comparable state and local laws, and general human and civil rights.
Must be familiar with applicable collective bargaining agreements, including those under Union Local 6 and relevant local labor union(s). Maintain and administer employment, wage and salary, benefits, OSHA, ERISA, ADA, and incentive programs (where applicable).
20% Manage termination process and unemployment compensation.

Regular attendance is essential for job performance. Employees with irregular attendance may face disciplinary action, including termination. Due to the hospitality industry's cyclical nature, employees may need to work varying schedules based on business needs and attend all scheduled training sessions and meetings. Employees must comply with New York's rules and regulations for the hotel's safe operation. Violations may result in disciplinary action, up to and including termination.

- Lead and supervise the Human Resources staff.
- Prepare and manage the Human Resources budget.
- Stay informed about current Human Resources and employee regulations to ensure compliance.
- Required to attend all hotel meetings and training sessions.
- Participate in hearings related to EEO, Unemployment, Wage & Hour, Worker’s Compensation, OSHA, ADA, Immigration and Naturalization Service, and implement policies to ensure adherence to regulations.
- Communicate new policies, information, and directives to employees.
- Train staff on HR policies and procedures.
- Ensure staff compliance with HR guidelines.
- Oversee recruitment, screening, and reference checking for non-exempt personnel.
- Recruit, interview, and recommend exempt personnel for hire.
- Manage employee benefits programs.
- Develop, approve, and maintain wage and salary programs, including performance evaluations.
- Recommend and/or approve employee transitions such as new hires, transfers, and promotions.
- Maintain an open-door policy and foster positive employee relations.
- Conduct training programs and ensure timely submission of reports.
- Participate in and monitor the safety committee to ensure compliance with Loss Prevention SOPs.
