HR Generalist, MSNOW

The HR Generalist will provide full-cycle human resources support to the MSNOW business. Reporting to the Vice President, Human Resources, this role will partner with business leaders, employees, and the Versant News Group HR team to deliver effective day-to-day HR support, drive employee engagement, and execute cross-functional initiatives and special projects.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a primary HR contact for MSNOW employees, partnering with HR Business Partners and functional leaders throughout the employee lifecycle.
• Support core HR activities, including staffing, onboarding and offboarding, performance management, compensation and bonus planning, reporting, and analytics.
• Partners with MSNOW HR leaders on strategic people initiatives, including employee engagement, retention, organizational design, title and compensation analyses, career development, diversity programs, and employee relations matters.
• Provide guidance on employee relations issues and support the fair, consistent application of company policies and practices.
• Coach employees on career development, career pathing, and professional growth opportunities.
• Advise employees on workplace matters and help resolve concerns in a proactive, professional, and solutions-oriented manner.
• Interpret and apply HR policies, practices, and procedures, including those related to time off, parental leave, and other employee programs.
• Serve as a liaison between employees, leaders, and functional partners—including Payroll, Benefits, and Talent Acquisition—to resolve day-to-day employee matters.
• Partner with hiring managers and Talent Acquisition to support objective recruitment strategies, diverse candidate slates, and strong candidate selection.
• Support additional HR initiatives and projects as assigned.

• 3+ years of relevant HR experience supporting an active, fast-paced employee population.
• 3+ years of experience supporting a range of HR functions, including recruitment, performance management, compensation planning, employee relations, and organizational development.

• Experience supporting news, media, broadcast, or similarly fast-paced organization.
• Experience managing large-scale or cross-functional projects.
• Experience working in a start-up, evolving, or unionized environment.
• Strong business judgment, analytical ability, and project-management skills.
• Demonstrated coaching, mentoring, and leadership capabilities, with a results-oriented and adaptable approach.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively and navigate change in a dynamic environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.
