Systems Engineer, Cybersecurity
Clearance Job is aiding a valued customer in their search for a Routing & Mobility Engineer. This position sits at the intersection of routing protocols, RF behavior, and mobility engineering. Success requires more than configuring routers — it requires understanding how routing algorithms behave when the network itself is constantly changing.

The selected candidate is responsible for designing, implementing, and tuning adaptive routing behavior in mobile, RF-based networks operating in dynamic, lossy, and contested environments.
This role focuses on real-time routing decision-making, where network topology and link quality change rapidly due to mobility, interference, or degradation.
This is not a static routing configuration role. The engineer will work on mobility-aware, RF-integrated routing systems that incorporate live link-layer and radio metrics to ensure resilient, low-
Key Responsibilities- Design, implement, configure, and tune dynamic routing protocols for mobile and unstable network environments
- Integrate RF and link-layer metrics into routing decisions using DLEP or similar mechanisms
- Develop and support mobility-aware routing behavior in rapidly changing topologies
- Optimize routing convergence time, stability, and loop avoidance under high packet loss and intermittent connectivity
- Support multicast routing and group communications, including traffic optimization
- Analyze routing performance under stress conditions including latency, jitter, and packet loss
- Conduct packet capture, traffic analysis, and performance troubleshooting
- Collaborate with SDN, overlay, and control-plane engineers to ensure consistent network behavior across layers
- Support simulation, testing, and validation of routing behavior in degraded or contested scenarios
- Routing & Protocols
- Strong hands-on experience with OSPF, including tuning for unstable or mobile environments
- Experience with BABEL or other mobility-friendly routing protocols (highly preferred)
- Familiarity with DLEP for radio-to-router signaling and metric exchange
- Mobility & RF-Aware Networking
- Experience working with rapidly changing network topologies
- Understanding of lossy link behavior and RF-constrained environments
- Knowledge of multicast routing concepts, group management, and optimization
- Experience with Linux routing internals, including:
- Policy-based routing
- Kernel routing tables
- Routing daemons such as FRRouting (FRR) or Quagga
- Network Performance & Analysis
- Packet capture and protocol analysis (e.g., tcpdump, Wireshark)
- Routing behavior analysis under degraded network conditions
- Simulation and test-based validation of routing decisions
- Solid grounding in network theory, including:
- Link metrics and cost models
- Convergence behavior
- Loop prevention and stability
- Ability to reason about routing behavior in non-deterministic, RF-influenced environments
- Telecom or routing engineering experience
- Wireless mesh networking or MANET experience
- Defense, tactical communications, or government programs
- ISP or backbone networking experience (engineering or architecture focus)
