Sr. Director, Software Engineering - Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director, Software Engineer to work in our Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms Engineering Team and build the future of financial services. We are a fast-paced, mission-driven group responsible for managing and leveraging petabytes of sensitive, real-time and batch data that powers everything from fraud detection models and personalized reward systems to regulatory compliance reporting.

As a leader in Software Engineering, you will lead the build of platforms and architect high-availability solutions that directly influence millions of customer experiences and secure billions in transactions daily. You will own critical data domains end-to-end, working cross-functionally with Product Managers and Business Analysts, Engineering teams, and others to solve complex, high-stakes problems with cutting-edge cloud technologies (such as Kafka and AWS services, including serverless architecture).

• Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product-focused software and data engineers
• Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open-source products across all platforms
• Modernize existing tech stacks and data platforms
• Collaborate with internal teams to identify opportunities for automation and machine learning
• Partner with architects, product owners, data professionals, and software & data engineers to drive the implementation of new applications
• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies
• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments and provide operational support
• Conduct design and code reviews to ensure compliance with standards

• Bachelor’s Degree
• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering
• At least 7 years of people management experience
• At least 3 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

• Master’s Degree
• 5+ years of experience in Lakehouse architecture, optimizing data storage for petabyte scale, enabling frictionless data consumption from storage platforms, and integrating with Data Governance Platforms
• 3+ years of experience creating and maturing a Data Architecture function

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated. McLean, VA: $314,800 - $359,300;
New York, NY: $343,400 - $392,000;
Richmond, VA: $286,200 - $326,700. Employees hired in other locations will be paid according to the applicable location’s range. This role is eligible for performance-based incentives which may include cash bonuses and/or long-term incentives.
