Balyasny is in a period of rapid technology transition. This exciting role within our Production Engineering team will provide you with the opportunity to ensure the reliability, performance, and resilience of our equity trading and business-critical systems. The role will focus on supporting the equity execution desk and operations teams through proactive monitoring, incident response, and continuous improvement of our equity production environment.

The candidate must have a proven understanding of trading system architecture and production operations within financial services. At BAM, you will have the chance to work with some of the smartest and most driven individuals in the industry.

As an Equity Production Engineer at BAM, you will:
  • Proactively monitor and maintain the health, capacity, and performance of trading and business-critical systems, addressing bottlenecks and risks.
  • Respond to and resolve production incidents, including troubleshooting, root cause analysis, escalation, and post-incident reviews to minimize downtime and drive continuous improvement.
  • Build, maintain, and enhance automated tools and solutions for system deployments, monitoring, alerting, operational workflows, and repetitive maintenance tasks, leveraging AI where appropriate.
  • Manage application deployments, configuration, and environment changes in coordination with development, infrastructure, and Dev Ops teams to ensure reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Collaborate closely with equity trading desk, operations, technology teams, and external vendors to ensure system stability, resolve issues, and deliver strategic enhancements.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, audit requirements, and regulatory standards, and support business continuity and disaster recovery testing for applications.
  • Own the production environment for trading and business systems, driving continuous improvement in deployment pipelines, configuration management, and system observability.
  • Document and maintain best practices, operational procedures, runbooks, and technical solutions for knowledge sharing, onboarding, and process improvement.
  • Provide direct and escalation support for trading desks and operations teams, including regional coverage as needed.

To be considered a good technical fit, you must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in Production Engineering, Dev Ops, or Site Reliability Engineering roles within financial services or related technology environments.
  • Deep understanding of equity trading system architecture and platforms, including execution, order management, FIX messaging, and market/static data feeds.
  • Proven experience managing and supporting complex, distributed production environments, including incident response, on-call rotations, escalation, and operational best practices (ITIL/agile/CI-CD), with strong troubleshooting and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Hands-on experience supporting applications on Windows, Linux, and Cloud platforms (Kubernetes, AWS).
  • Proficiency in automation and scripting (Python, Power Shell), infrastructure as code, configuration management, and deployment automation.
  • Experience with monitoring, observability, and alerting tools (e.g., ITRS Geneos, Grafana Alloy), including metrics, logging, and performance optimization.
  • SQL experience troubleshooting data-related issues impacting trading operations across multiple database platforms (MSSQL, Postgre

  • Familiarity with messaging (Solace, Kafka, Rabbit

    MQ) and enterprise scheduling/orchestration tools (Active Batch, Airflow, Control-M, Auto Sys).
  • Understanding of capacity planning, performance tuning, and system scalability principles.
  • Exposure to supporting applications written in languages such as C++, C#, Java, and Python in production environments.
