The Team

Strategic Partnerships manages and grows the most significant enterprise relationships across American Express. The team is responsible for defining multi-year partnership strategies, supporting key negotiations and projects, and driving new business opportunities globally with our largest Blue Box partners. It exists to deliver against three core objectives: (1) foster and maintain external relationships, (2) support and develop partner strategies that maximize value to customers and the enterprise, and (3) bring the best of Amex to drive growth and innovation.

The Role

This Senior Manager will report to the Director, Fintech Partnerships and will help drive growth and strategic enterprise goals across our largest fintech relationships including Adyen, Block, Shopify, and Stripe. Success in this role will require building deep knowledge of the partners and their priorities, comfort working in white space as we look to unlock new sources of value, and the ability to collaborate with colleagues and partners to achieve meaningful, measurable partnership outcomes.

Key

Job Responsibilities:
  • Strategy & Thought Leadership: Support and influence the development of American Express' overall enterprise strategies with Adyen, Block, Shopify, and Stripe. Guide Enterprise stakeholders as the thought leader on the constantly evolving fintech and commerce landscape, bring insights and critical thinking on market trends and competitive threats. Develop and implement effective strategies to grow the business through new products and partnerships and bring structure to framing complex issues.
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate relationships and establish new partnerships across the fintech ecosystem for payments and e-commerce initiatives and act as a primary point of contact for the enterprise.
  • External Intelligence: Establish yourself as an expert in the partners' businesses and serve as a single point of partner insight within American Express as well as building knowledge of market and competitive trends.
  • Issue Resolution: Work closely with internal partners to address partner issues; ensure closure of key issues.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Build excellent relationships with a range of stakeholders across Amex who are critical to the success of the partnerships and work closely with them to meet partnership and business objectives.
  • Project Management: Maintain a consistent pulse and overview of initiatives and discussions with the partner across the enterprise and track progress against completion and intervene to course correct when initiatives are off track.
  • Negotiation & New Business Development: Support major enterprise negotiations and new business development opportunities from ideation, business case development, and execution, in close partnership with key internal stakeholders.
  • Culture & Leadership: support SP's broader culture of growth, accountability, and retention.
Qualifications:
  • Proven ability to collaborate with partners and/or internal teams to deliver against key priorities (business development, negotiations, issue resolution)
  • Ability to excel in a highly dynamic, fast-paced, and ambiguous space. Highly proactive and comfortable acting with autonomy.
