Project OverviewThe team is building and enhancing a cloud‑based data platform that supports large‑scale analytical and financial workloads. The environment is centered on AWS and includes modern data warehouse technologies and relational databases. The project focuses on performance optimization, cloud migration, automation, and overall reliability improvements for mission‑critical database systems.
Position OverviewWe are seeking a Senior Database Administrator (DBA) with deep expertise in AWS‑managed databases, specifically Redshift and Aurora Postgre
SQL. In this role, you will lead design, implementation, and administration efforts for large‑scale cloud database clusters. You will collaborate closely with architecture, engineering, and product teams to ensure the databases are scalable, secure, and highly performant.
The estimated salary range for this position is 130,000 to 170,000 USD per year.
The role is hybrid and requires the ability to visit client office in the Newark, NJ minimum 3 times per week.
Responsibilities- Lead the configuration, design, and deployment of multi‑node Redshift and Aurora Postgre
SQL clusters on AWS. - Define and implement indexing, partitioning, and query optimization strategies.
- Design and execute migration plans for large on‑premises SQL databases to AWS Redshift and Aurora Postgre
SQL. - Develop automation scripts for routine database operations, including DDL/DML deployments, maintenance, and access management.
- Implement proactive monitoring, alerting, and maintenance workflows to enhance scalability and reliability.
- Partner with architecture and engineering teams to design and introduce new AWS‑based database solutions.
- Establish best practices, standards, and documentation across teams.
- Provide database support and guidance to application and product teams.
- 5+ years of experience in the architecture, design, and administration of large-scale RDBMS environments.
- Strong experience supporting application/product teams as a hands‑on DBA.
- 3+ years of experience managing multi-node AWS Redshift and Aurora Postgre
SQL clusters. - Deep knowledge of schema design, Redshift sort/distribution keys, and Postgre
SQL indexing strategies. - Solid understanding of AWS security concepts: IAM roles/policies, user management, temporary credentials, security groups.
- Experience with scripting (Bash or similar) and version control (Git).
- Experience working in Agile environments (Scrum/Kanban) with tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
- Experience working with large‑scale data warehouse or analytics platforms.
- Background in financial services or other data‑intensive regulated environments.
- Expertise in troubleshooting performance issues in high‑load production systems.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code and cloud automation practices.
- Experience with backup, disaster recovery, and high‑availability design for AWS database services.
