JOB SUMMARY

The Dougherty County School System is seeking a Network System Administrator to join our roster of experienced, motivated, and effective professionals. The Network System Administrator is responsible for the design, implementation, monitoring, security, and support of the district's wired and wireless network infrastructure across all school and administrative sites. This position ensures reliable, secure, and high-performing connectivity for instructional and operational systems, supports day‑to‑day network operations, and provides Tier 2 and Tier 3 escalation support.

The Network System Administrator collaborates with the IT team and vendors to deploy new technologies and maintain best practices for district network architecture.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Network Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.
  • Directly related experience may substitute for a degree or certification on a year-for-year basis.
  • Three (3) years of experience supporting enterprise or campus network environments.
  • Experience with LAN/WAN technologies, switching, routing, wireless networks, and firewalls.
  • Experience with network hardware installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, Network+, or equivalent preferred.
  • Valid Georgia driver's license and insurable for district vehicles.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting abilities.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks across multiple locations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non‑technology.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Install, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot district network infrastructure including switches, routers, wireless access points, firewalls, and related equipment.
  • Manage and maintain LAN, WAN, and wireless networks across all school and administrative sites.
  • Monitor network performance, availability, and capacity to ensure reliable service.
  • Diagnose and resolve network connectivity and performance issues.
  • Travel between sites to provide on‑site support and installations.
  • Implement and maintain network security controls including VLANs, firewalls, filtering, and access controls.
  • Monitor for and respond to network security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Configure and maintain network services such as DHCP and DNS.
  • Support integration of enterprise and instructional systems with network services.
  • Apply firmware updates, patches, and configuration changes according to best practices.
  • Maintain backup configurations of network devices.
  • Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 escalation support for network‑related issues.
  • Coordinate with vendors and service providers for installations and repairs.
  • Maintain accurate network diagrams, inventories, and configuration documentation.
  • Document procedures, standards, and troubleshooting steps.
  • Assist with planning and implementing network upgrades and expansion projects.
  • Recommend improvements to enhance performance, reliability, and security.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the goals and objectives of the Technology Department.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to sit for extended periods at a computer workstation.
  • Ability to lift and move computer equipment, including monitors, keyboards, printers, and servers, weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach as required for system installations, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces such as server rooms or wiring closets.
  • Ability to travel between school sites within the district as needed.
  • Visual acuity to work with computer screens and read technical documentation.
  • Manual dexterity required for keyboarding, mouse usage, and equipment installation.

SALARY RANGE

Twelve‑month contract;
Competitive salary and excellent benefits package, in accordance with the DCSS Compensation Guide.
