ITSD oversees critical projects and technological initiatives within the NYPD. They maintain and enhance the department’s IT infrastructure, including networks, servers, and workstations. ITSD has rolled out advancements such as equipping officers with cellular phones, applications, and digitizing department forms to improve efficiency.
Duties- ITSD is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Computer Specialist (Software), IV. The selected candidate will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:
- Utilize Service Now to assess the management of inventory in order to ensure accuracy through regular database comparisons that update inventory records.
- Manage new equipment purchase requests and timely renewals for NYPD network tools; ensure proactive cost-tracking and service cancellation to enhance operational efficiency and cost effectiveness.
- Provide system analysis by evaluating and optimizing network performance, capacity planning and contingency strategies.
- Supervise incoming requests and serve as Tier 2 escalation point by reviewing and assigning equipment requests for distribution.
- Supervise units responsible for systems development and applicable programming, including directing and reviewing staff work.
- Oversee major procurement efforts, including Print Smart purchase orders and the purchase and deployment of 24,300 desktops and 46,604 monitors.
- Coordinate multi-site, high- complexity technical projects across IT domains, such as the Microsoft 365 Integration Project and the Legacy Systems Integration Project.
- Administer the department-wide laptop refresh initiative and advise senior leadership on current deployments, inventory planning, warranty tracking and future equipment needs.

Minimum Qualifications
- A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, including or supplemented by twenty-four (24) semester credits in computer science or a related computer field and two (2) years of satisfactory full-time software experience in designing, programming, debugging, maintaining, implementing, and enhancing computer software applications, systems programming, systems analysis and design, data communication software, or database design and programming, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project;
or - A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and six (6) years of full-time satisfactory software experience as described in “1” above, including one year in a project leader capacity or as a major contributor on a complex project; or
- A satisfactory combination of education and experience that is equivalent to (1) or (2) above. College education may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience in (2) above on the basis that sixty (60) semester credits from an accredited college is equated to one…
