Work Location:

30-30 Thomson Avenue, LIC, NY 11101. The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Project Controls Division, seeks a Design and Construction Innovation Technologist to advance DDC’s virtual design and construction practice and use innovative technologies to improve cost and schedule performance. The candidate will act as a construction technologist, stay abreast of industry trends by researching innovative technologies for construction projects, and help develop related policies and procedures.

The candidate will provide advisory support to stakeholder engagements across the Agency and provide analysis, recommendations, and presentations on how innovative technology can be utilized for saving cost and increasing speed of project delivery. The candidate may work closely with counterparts in project delivery teams and support their adoption of innovative solutions. Innovative technologies include digital delivery elements such as 3D models, Building Information Models (BIM), reality capture, photogrammetry, virtual progress tracking tools, and project and construction management software administration.

Responsibilities also include research and evaluation of tools and techniques involving artificial intelligence, generative design tools, and IoT devices to reduce project cost and schedule.

  • Research innovative technologies and develop related policies and procedures; stay abreast of industry trends.
  • Provide advisory support to stakeholder engagements across the Agency.
  • Analyze, recommend, and present how innovative technology can be utilized for saving cost and increasing speed of project delivery.
  • Work closely with project delivery teams and support their adoption of innovative solutions.
  • Research and evaluate tools and techniques involving artificial intelligence, generative design tools, and IoT devices to reduce project cost and schedule.
Labor and Licensing Requirements

All candidates must be currently authorized to work full-time in the United States. Candidates must provide original documents proving citizenship or the legal right to work in the U.S. DDC does not support or sponsor any visa application or visa extension, including but not limited to OPT/STEM visas, H‑1B visas, F‑1 practical training, permanent residence sponsorship, or any proposed change of visa type.

DDC does not offer a training program as required by U.S. immigration law, and is not hiring temporary employees.

Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and four years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
  • An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science, engineering, human computer interaction, interactive media, digital and graphics design, data visualization, communication or a related field, and six years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college, and eight years of satisfactory full‑time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology, process, methodology and/or domain.
  • Education and/or experience which is equivalent to “1”, “2”, or “3” above.
  • Educational credentials must be from a U.S. Department of Education‑recognized accredited institution. Credentials from foreign institutions require independent equivalency verification from an approved evaluation service.
