Role Summary
Pfizer’s commitment to computational science underpins this role, which focuses on migrating and enhancing our high‑performance computing (HPC) infrastructure to the cloud. The position requires extensive cloud engineering and Dev Ops expertise to design, deliver, and operate robust HPC solutions that support computational workloads across the organization.
Responsibilities- Platform Architecture and Engineering: design, implement, operate, and own HPC and ML/AI infrastructure in AWS/GCP; lead containerization, deployment, and operation of HPC platforms such as Slurm, Open On Demand, and Prometheus/Grafana; translate stakeholder input into scalable, cost‑effective platforms; partner with specialists to capture manual processes into IaC workflows, transforming ad‑hoc deployment into reproducible automation.
- Automation and Dev Ops: develop and maintain infrastructure automation using Terraform and Cloud Formation; create reusable Terraform modules and enforce standards; operationalize Docker and Kubernetes containers; manage the full lifecycle of infrastructure from provisioning to support, update, and teardown; troubleshoot, analyze, and benchmark to resolve performance issues.
- Monitoring and Reliability: develop monitoring, logging, and alerting using Cloud Watch, Prometheus, and Grafana; design dashboards, workflows, and utilities to improve observability, cost monitoring, and workload efficiency; document architecture, deployment processes, and operational procedures; support scientific computing services including user support, Linux administration, operations, job scheduling, application management, and resource optimization.
- B.S. in computer science, life science, data science, or a related field.
- 6+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering with a proven track record of developing and supporting robust IaC deployments.
- Experience managing scientific computing workloads in an enterprise environment.
- Advanced experience with at least one of AWS or GCP, including core compute and storage services relevant to HPC.
- Solid understanding of cloud networking, identity, and security controls.
- Prior experience with HPC deployment utilities such as AWS Parallel Cluster, AWS Parallel Computing Services, and Google Cloud Cluster Toolkit.
- Proficiency with distributed computing environments, especially EKS, GKE, and Kubernetes; familiarity with job schedulers (Slurm) and HPC application containers (Docker, Singularity, Apptainer); experience with NVIDIA GPU computing.
- Leadership experience demonstrating the ability to influence, collaborate with peers, coach others, and guide colleagues toward meaningful outcomes.
Occasional international travel for team meetings and conferences.
Other Job DetailsHybrid work location: 2-3 days per week in the Pfizer office, with the remainder remote.
Annual base salary range: $ to $. Eligible for Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 17.5% of base salary and participation in a share‑based long‑term incentive program.
