Overview

The New York Mets are seeking a Data Engineer for its Data Engineering Technology team. This position will support operations in both baseball and the business of baseball by ingesting, processing, storing, optimizing, and distributing structured and unstructured data across areas such as ticketing operations, business strategy, baseball analytics, performance technology, and more. The role is based in Flushing, New York, and the successful candidate will collaborate with a global team in New York and Poland.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ensure all production data sources are optimally ingested, processed, and distributed to applications, dashboards, and users at scheduled frequencies, including real‑time in‑game data.
  • Onboard new datasets and technologies for analysts, data scientists, players, and other stakeholders throughout the organization.
  • Troubleshoot, communicate, mitigate, and resolve any data ingestion or quality issues for stakeholders.
  • Design, code, test, and roll out new datasets, and enhance or fix existing ones.
  • Support quantitative analysts with deployment and maintenance of machine‑learning and predictive models.
  • Build and manage data models, domains, and catalog to keep data organized, accurate, and easily discoverable.
  • Deploy and manage scalable data‑quality solutions, including monitoring dashboards.
  • Assist in maintaining a data catalog for efficient data discovery.
  • Collaborate with global data engineering/support teams on engineering and support requests.
  • Work a flexible schedule during the baseball season to provide in‑game support.
  • Coordinate with IT and infrastructure teams to ensure a robust cloud development and production environment.
Qualifications
  • BS degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in data engineering, data operations, or support roles.
  • Experience with both on‑premise and cloud environments; GCP or Azure required.
  • Technical skills:
    Python, dbt, SQL, T‑SQL, Linux for large‑scale data ingestion, processing, and distribution.
  • Experience extracting data from FTP and API sources.
  • Experience building data structures and pipelines in the cloud, preferably Azure and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Experience with modern SDLC and Dev Ops tools (e.g., Terraform, Cloud Build, Bit Bucket).
  • Ability to provide prompt support and resolve data issues.
  • Experience implementing scalable data‑quality solutions.
  • Knowledge of big‑data frameworks, databases, orchestration, and tools such as Google Cloud Composer (Airflow), Big Query, Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres, Dataflow, Pub/Sub.
  • Strong analytical skills and a collaborative, fast‑paced work style.
Compensation

Salary Range: $75,000 - $90,000
