Job Description:Farmingdale State College is seeking a passionate and dedicated Educational and Information Technology (EIT) Accessibility Specialist. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in ensuring that all educational and informational content, tools, and platforms are accessible to individuals with disabilities.
The EIT Accessibility Specialist will collaborate with various departments to evaluate and enhance the accessibility of our digital resources, developing and implementing accessibility strategies, and providing guidance on best practices in compliance with legal & SUNY standards.
Key Responsibilities:- Support the responsibility for issuing, updating, and enforcing any requirements, standards, or guidelines supported by SUNY policy.
- Ensure the continued development, maintenance, and periodic updates of the Accessibility Plan, in alignment with local shared and faculty governance processes.
- Review procurement and implementation requests of accessible technology solutions.
- Evaluate and ensure the accessibility of educational materials, websites, and digital tools.
- Collaborate with Librarians, IT staff, Facilities, Communications, Web Team, Disability/Accessibility Services, Campus/Residence Life, Student Government, Distance Learning, Faculty/Academics, and Purchasing.
- Conduct accessibility audits and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Develop and maintain accessibility guidelines and best practices for digital content.
- Provide training and support to staff on accessibility tools and techniques.
- Monitor compliance with accessibility standards such as WCAG, Section 508, and ADA.
- Stay current on the latest developments in accessibility standards and technology.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Educational Technology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated experience with Title II within EIT accessibility, with a strong understanding of accessibility standards such as WCAG 2.1/2.2, Section 508, and ADA.
- Proficiency in using accessibility evaluation tools and assistive technologies such as JAWS, Narrator, and Voice Over (e.g., screen readers, keyboard navigation, etc.).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Certification in accessibility (e.g., CPACC, WAS, DHS Trusted Tester or other relevant credentials).
- Familiarity with UX/UI design principles and their application to accessibility.
- Experience in an educational or corporate environment, particularly in roles focused on accessibility or inclusive design.
- Proven track record of successfully leading accessibility initiatives or projects.
